The Harvard Waitlist Waiting Room 2014 Thread

I love you guys all  I’m on the wait-list too hehe.
So please don’t think of me as a traitor or anything but it looks like I’m going to Yale.
Don’t get me wrong, my heart is definitely at Harvard, but I don’t think my application was good enough to be Harvard material. I sent it in too early so my essay was slightly embarrassing and I didn’t have very great test scores either. (screw test scores I got into Yale lol)

A smart black kid at my school got into Harvard but he is going to MIT so maybe he’ll create some room :)) haha

Anyways, just want to let you lucky ones know… That even though i’ll probably be in New Haven, my heart is with you guys  (sshh don’t tell anyone). And who knows, maybe I’ll see you guys at the Harvard-Yale game- that’d be fun! But in all seriousness, in the long run, it probably doesn’t matter all that much. Harvard’s just another school like the rest of 'em… They have toilets at their school too ROFL.

Good luck to all!

hillsongfan – woo! i’m going to yale, too!

What a long weekend. I really want to know about yield already.

Yes! me and you  We’ll show Harvard what’s up! jk

1144 in the harvard facebook group compared to 1210 a year ago…hmmm I hope that corresponds to a lower yield.

I agree Cicero. My bet is still a 75% yield with around 75 people accepted off the waitlist! Hope! I am amazed that 100 waitlistees are on CC. That must be at least 15% of the active waitlistees to Harvard.

-Optimism!

Looking at the way Yale/Princeton are pulling off their Waitlists, I’m guessing Harvard got a pretty good yield.

That sounds about right, but we can always be optimistic and hope for longer. Why does Harvard insist on keeping us waiting though? If Princeton and Yale can get their acts together and start taking people off of the waitlist, why does Harvard have to wait so long, then start deliberating, then finally tell us over halfway through the month? It’s agonizing. And it could go on for so much longer.

I think part of the reason Harvard is one of the last to go to its waitlist is because they avoid the summer melt entirely. Think about it this way; the people who got off of Princeton and Yale’s waitlists and withdrew from Harvard just gave Harvard a larger number of people to accept off of its own waitlist. There is less of a back-and-forth between Harvard and the other top colleges because Harvard just waits for everything to settle down.

You’re probably right, but it’s very frustrating. I’d like to be rejected already, please, if it’s going to go on even until June.

Stay strong; we’ve already made it through april and almost a third of may. And now, with ap tests almost over, school’s winding down (or for some people it’s already out). The wait won’t be much longer, and the suspense will all be over.

Yup, we’ve made it so far already. I’m a little down about not getting a call from Yale (wait listed there, as well), but what can you do? It keeps hitting me that my chances of getting off Harvard’s WL are slim, but it’s hard not to fixate on it. It’s always been a dream of mine to go there. But we’ve just gotta hang in there for a little while longer. We’re almost there, I can feel it! I agree with Gunther, whether it’s an acceptance or a rejection, I’d really like an answer already so I can find some closure.

Yeah, I’m done with school, looking for a job between now and when camp starts. I just want to either fall more in love with Wash U or know about Harvard. I’m not incredibly anxious or stressed. I guess the right emotion is annoyance. It’s mild, but just enough to peeve me.

Add me to the list, please. :)

Welcome! I’m putting college of matriculation in brackets. Please state your own and I’ll add it!

If your name is in bold PLEASE come out and say hi so we can confirm that you are remaining on the waitlist! Thanks!

Updated with wonderful lurkers. More people should come out and join us! (101 people so far; 79 for sure-22 unknown)

Add me!!!

Matriculating at: Harvey Mudd College

Hoping for Harvard or Dartmouth!

Also, I am not positive if this has been referenced in the general discussion, but waitlist admittance figures may also be subdued a bit due to the matriculation of deferred acceptees who were initially admitted as members of the Class of 2013.

Harvard always comes last in admitting off their waitlists. I agree with the poster who says that they are most likely trying to avoid the summer melt.

@mifune, there are deferred acceptees every year. I am not sure how they factor into the equation precisely. They might be included in the accepted students or factored into the waitlist, I am unsure.

Hey guys, sorry for coming in so late, i hadn’t realized this thread existed. I am currently committed to Johns Hopkins, but certainly keeping my fingers crossed for the big H haha
