if you go back around post #1053 we were talking about how if, say, harvard wants a tuba player and the tuba player they accepted turns them down, they’ll fill that “hole” with another tuba player from the waitlist.

i am a little confused as to how my information is at odds with the information coming from this thread (prep school kids hearing later), but i do trust my counselor since he really knows the deal with harvard from the inside
he said something about harvard needing final grades. i graduate on may 29th so if that holds true that means i wont get anything until then

hopefully that wasnt even more confusing but as i said i’m still a little confused myself!

@Iluv11alot, nycprepster is referring to specific kids like influential legacy children who will be given special consideration as to wether or not they should be given a space instead of replacing some gap in harvard’s numbers. This is possibly because harvard wants to see if it can open a space for the alumni’s son or daughter. This system that nyc prepster refers to, isnt nessarilly true in all cases and the adcoms can act differently every year and with each particular student.
Adcoms can be fickle in this regard and judge these types of students based on a combination of merit and of potential development, this system is viewed most frequently in a lot in private schools because of the large conglomeration of wealthy alumni’s children.

I’ve been lurking on this waitlist thread for awhile, I just logged in to say that I also could not access my app info page.

We shouldn’t think too much of it. Sure, it could be them eliminating all access to the harvard site because we’ve been eliminated, OR it could be that they fixed it up to look like an accepted students info page, and they just don’t want us to access it til we get called.

More likely than not, they probably blanket-nulled everyone’s page.

And since this is my first post here, I guess I’ll also mention I’m waitlisted, from the northeast, and matriculated to UChicago! Yea fun-killers :)!

chichibi, there have been a number of great books on the subject of college admissions and serves to highlight the different interest that universities take into account in the application process. the best book, would probably be the gatekeepers, its a great read.

My application status accounts at Harvard AND Maryland (where I am enrolled) both just stopped working. I suppose it’s just the standard clean-up as they get ready for next year …

As for the application status, the class of 2012 waitlist had the same problems, even the ones who got accepted. It doesn’t mean anything. You just can’t change your application anymore (which was one of the conditions for signing up for the WL).

Hi Dukeatreides. Hurray for U. Chicago. I am feeling quite school-spirity right now which I think is a good sign. There are four of us!

I think the whole thing with the websites is a waste of time. Schools would never reveal any information about waitlist statuses online before telling you in person. Think about what would happen if we could log onto our Harvard application status pages on March 1st instead of April 1st and check whether we got in. All hell would break loose (sorry for the cliche).

Once I hear that folks have received the call off the waitlist, if my son is not one of them within the next 2 days after that, I will assume that he will not be one because the pool will shrink so much. Lets hope we are one of the 65 to 75 selected.
