@ courteau91: Assuming they use e-mail to respond, they would contact you, not your school, so you should be fine. (Unless your e-mail address is somehow connected to your school’s e-mail system in which case I misunderstood.)

I believe all acceptances are done via phone while all rejections are snail mail.

What about international students?

Will we be notified via phone or email?

How would phone call work, given the huge difference in time zone?

Thanks, iluv and gunther.

It really shouldn’t take so long, they’ve already made the decisions! I thought I was done with this whole college admissions thing… joke’s on us!

For the record, just confirmed:

all of the typical “feeder” schools - the big name prep schools in the northeast - will not hear until june because the admissions office is waiting on final grades for judgment

which i dont quite understand guess i have another two weeks at least…ugh

That doesn’t seem right. My son’s school doesn’t even graduate til June 11th as does all of our county schools. Does that mean he doesn’t have a chance? I think a call to a guidance counselor would confirm grades if necessary. My belief is there will be 65 to 75 people called Wednesday and of the 65 to 75 called, however many do not accept will determine the additional vacancies for the second wave.

nyprepster:

That does not appear to be what happen last year according to the 2013 waitlist thread. Can you share your source for that information? Thanks

Sorry I may not be understanding correctly, but if you’re from a public high school that hasn’t ever sent anyone to Harvard, you’re only chance of getting in off the waitlist is by filling a hole? Basically just the first wave?

Wednesday!? I thought that they were starting today or Tuesday and doing calls the whole week. Are they only making calls for the first wave on Wednesday?

my school college counselor is a former member of the harvard admissions office and still keeps in close touch with their office. i know it doesnt make sense - i am equally confused. that is just what he told me. i go to a boarding school new england and all schools similar to mine (HE SAYS) don’t hear until june when final grades are out.

i am just as confused as you are, believe me…

Shoot, to get in Harvard, my son will be happy to fill a hole or even take on custodial duties if that is what it takes. I don’t know how they pick em myself, but he is hopeful for Harvard’s call. If he doesn’t get in Harvard, he has already been accepted by Yale so it will not be the end of the world for sure.

@ guitar01: “but if you’re from a public high school that hasn’t ever sent anyone to Harvard, you’re only chance of getting in off the waitlist is by filling a hole.”

As I understand it, it doesn’t matter what type of school you’re from or whether every kid from your school goes to Harvard; your only chance of getting in off the waitlist is by filling a hole.

@ nyprepster: In my school seniors don’t have a fourth quarter, they simply have internships. I’ve sent in all of my third quarter grades though, so that means they have all of them. Randomly, some teachers put down fourth quarter grades at the end of third quarter; now I’m worried that will throw everything off. Wonderful.

Well my private school is certainly not a feeder school and waiting for final grades just seems ridiculous. That’s not what this is about.

Calls coming on Wednesday just makes the wait longer, but at least we know the date. But then if there’s no call (which is the most probable outcome), hope is lost. Somewhat depressing.

So are all first wave calls on Wednesday?

@Boggler - completely agreed. I don’t know whether to be excited or terrified for Wednesday. It’s like I may be anticipating a phone call that may never actually come.

Yes, cicero, according to recent posts, it seems that the 65-75 lucky people to get off the wait list in the first wave will be notified via phone on Wednesday (kind of wish there was a more specific time frame to avoid sitting by the phone all day…).

@Boggler: I would agree, except I’m not sure if it will matter anymore. By Wednesday I’ll most likely be in a straight jacket and a padded room lol

And I am guessing it would be wrong to skip school to sit by the phone haha

What’s super annoying is that I won’t be available until Thursday night which means I won’t know even if I do get a call.
