At least it’ll all be finalized (for most of us) on Wednesday.

@gunther Is there any way you can check your messages from where you are going?

Unfortunately not. I am not going anywhere, just won’t be able to use my phone or computer.

That sucks. Why won’t you have access to a phone/computer?

So Wednesday it is, huh. Finally some closure to all of this (hopefully)

Tis a Jewish holiday and we can’t use electricity.

It is the Jewish holiday of Shavout!

Could someone explain the z-list to me?

@gunther: Well, it would it be against Jewish code to have a friend use electricity for you to check your messages? lol Technically, you aren’t using it directly…(see, finding loopholes like that is why I’m a bad Catholic haha)

@MSauce: The z-list is mainly a tool for Harvard to get legacies who dont really qualify for regular admissions in. They do sometimes offer it to regular people. Basically, you are guaranteed a spot at Harvard for the class of 2015, but you have to take one year off from school.

Honestly, as much as I love Harvard, I don’t think I could do the z-list if offered a spot. It would kill me to say no, but I need to get a doctorate, I can’t afford to drag my educational career out any longer than it already will be.

So the first wave people get a call this Wednesday, second wave next week or the week after that, and z-list people in the beginning of June? If I get a rejection mail this week (I hope I don’t… But this seems most probable) does that mean I won’t even be considered for z-list?

Sorry for this news:

I called the admissions office at 4:45pm today. The girl who answered the phone was able to essentially answer my questions before I even asked them. Apparently, she had been fielding similar calls from other waitlisters.

During the call, she told me that the committee met most of last week, was still in a meeting today and would likely be meeting until the end-of-day on Wednesday. She said that everyone being offered a place in the Harvard class of 2014 would receive a phone call and that calls would be made on THURSDAY. For those not receiving calls, letters and e-mails would also go out on Thursday.

I forgot to ask about the number of waves.

@gcall
how rare is it for harvard to offer z-list for regular ppl?

It gets very complicated. You can’t ask directly but they can do it for you. Just not sure if its worth it though. I’ll probably have an email Thursday night saying we’re sorry we can’t take you this year.

@pooooh: I honestly have no idea. Harvard, of course, wont admit that the z-list is just a way to get legacies in. But most sources seem to agree that that is exactly what the z-list is, and put the amount of non-legacies on it at less than 10%

So yesterday it was Monday, today it was Wednesday, and now Thursday?? It’s hard to believe that it’ll ever happen at this point… I actually do hope if we don’t receive a call this week that we’ll be notified of rejection via email. I need closure.

Wow, really? If so, I’d be very sad. I called today as well (halfway hoping they’d just tell me) and the lady said they would “send out letters” on Wednesday…

I think it’s crazy that it’s already this late as it is. We won’t hear 'til the 20th? Why didn’t they start May 1st and finish this up sooner? This whole thing reeks of inefficiency. Sigh…

Still, if offered a spot it would be totally worth the wait. Which is the ironic part of this whole process…

I feel like it’s March 30th again, not May 17th haha

Haha same here. They don’t call it a waitlist for nothing.
