congratulations on all the acceptances!

Happy Holi Guys!!

UChicago '15 EA Here. I’ve paid my deposit. (It was my second choice; Rejected Swarthmore ED)

@itsmylife: Trust me, this time UChicago’s choices were really weird… Anonymity on CC allows me to say that i’m disgusted with some of their choices from my school, and appalled at some of the people they didn’t take. Congrats on Georgia!

^SERIOUSLY. Same here!

Picture this guys:
Bimbette with 1760SAT1, crap SAT2, 83% boards, crap performance in IB, but extracurrics. Speaking, house captain, and 2 more. Not THAT good also but. Result? ** WAITLISTED **

I’m sure that UChic mustve been high when they reviewed her app.

@ani: you applied/got in? I know a person EXACTLY like that. Maybe even worse and he got waitlisted! And this friend of mine, from what I know him he’s a perfect fit for UChicago (personality wise). 2370 SATs, much better than me in IB, okayish extras - REJECTED !?!?!?!?!?!

^ Picture this:
Brilliant girl, 2210 SAT, 90% boards, amazing ECs, beautiful essays. Result? Rejected.

I’m kinda confused. :S

@goodwood8, Thanks. :)

BTW, any idea how many Indians got in with aid to Chicago? :/

@goodwood8, seems like admissions process really is unpredictable. BTW, do you guys think Chicago’s got what they call the Tufts’ syndrome?

I was about to bring that up, but I confess I’m not too well versed with the entire mechanics of it. In all honesty, it is absolutely shocking, the types of people they’ve waitlisted/rejected (again, I do not include myself here). I’m really annoyed about my friend not getting in, especially since she wasn’t even asking for any aid, and she is a brilliant applicant in terms of grades, ECs, essays, recommendations, AND the additional diversity factor she would bring as an under-represented nationality.

Needing and not needing aid makes a lot of difference.

ffs, UChicago does not practice preemptive rejection. Why do people always cry TUFTS SYNDROME when things don’t go their way?

Hello, Ghostt!

No one’s crying about anything here.

It’s just strange that so many applicants have been waitlisted.

^ this.

lmao @ all the speculation regarding ‘tufts syndrome’ at chicago here. :D

^ Lol, what exactly do you find funny? :p

And happy holi everyone! :)

None of us are whining here. We’re trying to fathom the process behind decisions. Speculations and discussions have occurred and will always occur after decisions, and nobody here is blaming Tufts Syndrome or anything else for that matter for our waitlists/rejections.

On a side note, it’s Holi today? Isn’t it tomorrow?

Compscifan-Indeed it does. It’s disheartening, but understandable.

Stats + ability to pay + solid intangibles = Acceptance at almost every school except HYPD-Amherst.

It’s really that simple. All three are somewhat required, unless you’re some brilliant prodigy that every school wants.

That’s a bit like saying if you apply to X college you will be accepted, waitlisted, or rejected. Obvious, and in my opinion never that simplistic, at least not with US colleges.
‘Solid intangible’ is an oxymoron, no?

It is unfortunate that UChicago has become like WUStL, waitlisting so many well qualified candidates and admitting people who have no chance of getting into an Ivy school. I think they are playing numbers game - trying to lower acceptance ratio and increase yield, mainly to retain or improve its spot in various rankings.

Another safety in the bag …
UC - SAN DIEGO

Congratulations compscifan!

I bet some of your safeties are better for what you want to study (assuming it is CS) than your dream schools. (½ jk)

How many colleges have you guys applied to?

Oh. Haha. Compscifan, you reminded me that I applied to UCSD as well. Haven’t heard a whisper from them yet. Tried logging onto their website and I was taken to their current students portal. That much of a pain to send an automated mail, huh? :P
