The Honors College

For someone who is in it or is familiar with it...how does the Honors College compare to a typical liberal arts college? For example, I am considering Oberlin College in Ohio, but if the education is similar at LSU's Honor College, then I might consider going since it would be cheaper for me as an in-state student with TOPS, grants, etc...

I'm a prospective student myself... I toured the Honors College and met with a representative, and from the impression I got, it's very much like a small liberal arts college within a big college. I came in with the mindset that a large college might not be for me, but after touring LSU (after getting a great scholarship deal), I changed my mind.

Check out this video, http://multimedia.lsu.edu/media/Honors04.ram

Personally, I think it would be crazy to pay 45K/year at Oberlin rather than 10K/year at LSU, assuming full price.

That video was the first thing I watched when I was checking out the Honors College. It's what made me go ahead and apply. But financial reasons aside, does it truly compare to a "real" LAC? Would it have the same clout with Graduate Schools, for instance?

I can't give you a fair answer to that...

I think your heart is set on Oberlin from your other posts. I can't tell someone to go against their heart.

No, my heart's not set yet. I'm actually looking for excuses to stay in-state, haha. I'm just very confused about what I want lately.

Wish I could visit the Honors College, I got accepted OOS, got about a 32 thousand dollar scholarship, and everything from what I've seen online looks good.

Personally I would rather go to University of Texas(not Honors) though. IDK

Wow, 32,000?! Congrats!

I just got accepted to the Honors College yesterday. I've already been assigned a room and roommate in Herget, not the Honors College dorm. Would it be a pain to be in Honors and not be in the dorm?

If I do go to LSU, I'll live in West Laville and be in the Honors College. The honors college does seem great in my opinion, smaller classes, first choice classes, and overall more academic environment. At least for me the environment really plays a role. If everyone is there studying and knowledgeable about the world, I am motivated to do the same. If everyone is just lazy, it makes me want to be lazy as well. All of this to a certain extent right.
