I have newspaper for 3 years, debate for one (it wasn’t very organized so I’m not doing it again), and this year I’m adding literary magazine and student council, just to try it.

Outside of school I play a few instruments/write music, and basically run my house. Since I can get a license this year, I’ll probably get a job and do some volunteering as well, since I’ll have a way to get there.

^ ECs can be anything, really. Mine are all over the place.

I think having a few ECs wouldn’t hurt, if an applicant is dedicated. I mean, if you’re an Olympic-bound athlete I would expect you to not have enough time to go through ten ECs.

^ LOL. He probably gave the Yale admissions office a good laugh.

Foreign language learning/tutoring (4 years), piano (4 years), writing (3 years), and forensics (2 years). That’s probably what I’ll end up with. I’m kind of stuck about volleyball. 4 or 5 EC’s depending. I don’t know if I want to continue playing as a senior since I only just started this year. But if I do decide to continue, then add volleyball (2 years) to the list.

As a side note, can I ask the CC community for their opinions? I’m only decent at volleyball; there’s nothing stellar about my playing skills at all. I’m a junior and this is my first year playing a team sport, so I was on JV. Do you think I should continue playing and try to make varsity my senior year, or should I just forget the whole thing? I love the whole team experience volleyball has brought me, but I’m not sure whether it’s worth it to continue playing even though I’m not great, haha. Suggestions/comments/advice?

I would suggest that you keep playing it. As long as you can manage your academics on top of it, why not? You might as well do the sport that you enjoy:)

If that’s your only concern for continuing, definitely stick with it…if you like the sport, why would you just quit because you’re not that good (and if you continue to play, uh, you get better).

Again, you already got recruited as a junior to Ivies. There is no need to feel that way:)
However, you haven’t been initiated into our club yet.
