The Indian Thread #20 (a)

The full need is full demonstrated need as determined by them. If they think your reasons arent good enough or you dont deserve that much money they will give you less or even nothing.

If your need (determined by them) isn’t going to be met in part or at all (for sure), and they don’t ask you about your need in the application process itself, that’s not need blind.

What would be the use of having a need-blind admission policy if you are not giving any need based aid, that’s illogical.

The point is that they have to determine how much aid you deserve. If they determine that you are affluent enough to not need any aid, then they will not award you anything. The point of being need blind, if im not wrong, is that your chances of admission aren’t affect by your FA status. Anyway how do you know how the Commonwealth Bursary for Cambridge works like?

I don’t know how the Bursary works. But I do know what “need-blind” means.

Nowhere in the world do they let you determine your need on your own, they determine it through the FA forms and tax returns and stuff. It’s a deceiving world man, they will do evaluation on their own of course.

Need blind only applies to institutions which promise to fulfill the full need of the applicant (as assessed by them, of course). Now let me tell you why: they will have to pay for each aid asking student, that too fully. Need aware (full need) colleges assess how much money the applicant is asking in his admission chanced, need blind places do not do this. That’s the only difference.

But you got this form AFTER you got in. At Cambridge, you might not get your full need met. Financial help isn’t part of the admission process, but rather a secondary thing after you GET IN.

If you were an adcom and your college might not give ANYTHING to a student, what is the point of being blind or aware of that fact then?

You all MUST read this.

Tizil : I just wanted to ask if anyone else from here has gotten any response yet :stuck_out_tongue: (From penn)

Hey I am a relatively new member of this forum and I find this Indian forum the best of the lot.

The admission decisions are nearing so why not start a new type of discussion.

There are so many Indian applicants for the class of 2016 here; so who according to everyone out here would most probably get accepted at HYPSM?

I go for tastycles because of his amazing scores.

^^ I think to judge that, we need to know everyone’s stats/profile first! :P

I don’t know. I don’t think it’s a good idea. It’s not in our hands. We don’t know what will happen behind the doors of the admissions committee. College admissions are quite arbitrary. After all, we all think we deserve to get in and have a chance, or else we wouldn’t have applied. Why create hopes and expectations, when reality will unveil itself in only a few weeks? o.O

Am I the only person over here who didn’t apply to HYPSM?

Just came here to tell i hate life, i am not getting into HPSM and i hate semi conductors.

Ascaris, I did not apply to HYP. I applied to SM, though :p

EDIT1: Everyone her is a HYPSter :p

EDIT2: Don’t worry Bist, soon it will all be over and you’ll be enjoying like never before :)

@iamthebist

I hate semiconductors too. It’s the worst freaking chapter in the Physics syllabus. I wish they’d put more modern physics ( Stuff like general relativity, special relativity, etc)…

@Bist

Chill da! You’ll be fine. HPSM should not have an effect on your happiness curve. Okay, it can bump it up…but heck, you’re not letting it pull you down.

After months of wrangling I have finally found a semblance of peace…No one has the right to robe me of my happiness, other than me. And I’m not going to do that over a rejection letter.

@Tizil

No “Y” for me…

I still don’t fully understand transistors. As a prospective computer engineer, this is worrying! I suppose it’s back to the old tradition of learning by rote and just spitting it out on the answer sheet. I want to get out of this system so badly!

I was SO close to applying to Stanford. It was my dream school for well over a year. I finished the CommonApp+Supplement and was just about to submit it when something stopped me and I sat on it till the deadline passed. In retrospect it was probably because I KNEW I couldn’t get into Stanford and didn’t want to see the rejection letter. Oh well! It’s not be all or end all if I don’t go to Stanford.

But dont you realise ki by not hitting submit you denied yourself that teenie meenie minuscule percent of a chance?

Was entertaining the infinitesimally small possibility worth 90 dollars out of my parent’s pocket? Maybe. But I know how good of an applicant I am, and I know I’m not good enough for Stanford. Besides, no use crying over spilt milk. It’s not as if the universities I applied to are terrible.

Agreed.

Whats done’s done.
