The Indian Thread #20 (a)

also, his facebook profile says hes from dps. but i wouldn’t be surprised if that was fake too

A quick question, has anybody had any experience at USIEF counselling??

MODERATOR’S NOTE:

Links to Facebook and other social sites are not permitted on CC (see the Terms of Service), so I had to delete the link and comments about it.

@Mrinal: You say that you have a cousin who has IPhO and IMO medals.
Well, there hasn’t been a IPhO medallist who could have applied to MIT for quite some time. Is he/she from India??

@compact, Yes he is.

Mrinal: Yes. Some reps from USIEF came to my school. Honestly, if you have a 256kps internet connection, you don’t need anything more.

What I mean is that USIEF will never be able to match the resources and advice at your disposal, not only on College Confidential, but on countless other websites just a quick Google search away.

ARGH. I just deleted all my bookmarks which directed to advice/tips I found helpful during my application process. However, I still have a bookmark group about stuff relating to Columbia. I can send you a PM with the links so that you can get an idea about which websites I used to frequent :p

@Tizil, you are a life savior:p
I would certainly like to visit those sites, was wondering what a college counselor could help me at. Judging from your statement, I don’t think that is a big factor :wink:
Yes, please certainly like that PM of yours.

I’m not saying that the counsellors aren’t helpful. My opinion stems from the fact that I like helping myself better. So, even if it took me 2 hours more in some cases to find information that an USIEF counsellor could have given me, I didn’t avail that opportunity.

Could you send me that PM too, Tizil? :)

@Mrinal: Well you see, every year the people who go to IPhO from India have JEE ranks 1-10. Obviously, so they go to IPhO in 12th Standard. So assuming your applied for '16, he/she wasn’t in last year’s IPhO, or the year before for that matter.

Are you sure you are talking about International Medal and not the camp/ national one?

Yes, I am compact. :slight_smile:
Can’t give you his name, Sorry ;)

ohkay … though even if you wont, its easy to go to HBCSE website and correlate :smiley: :P-> barely anyone goes to both IPhO and IMO. Unfortunately the website is down at this time.

That was why I couldn’t open the site. Yes, they are rare. :D

Edit: Sorry guys, just called him and came to know that he did not go to IPhO. Guess my mum exaggerated. :wink: Even though, you can be sure of his IMO medal.

@Tizil- Yep. Amherst College and UMass Amherst are two different colleges. But you can take classes at either of them while belonging to the other :D

Got into UCSD. Not even close to my top choice but I’m not complaining about the acceptance :)

Congrats Ascaris!

Btw, this changed layout is… ewwwwwww. :eek:

UCSD is number 2 in biomedical engineering if it is of any interest.

Yeah, San Diego is a biomedical engineering hotspot. Lots of companies. Unfortunately I want to do computer science.

Wait… UCSD results are out?
