why is it so obvious that your kids will be productive? im sure you are privileged too, and grew up in a 'privileged' atmosphere. how productive are you?

(no offence meant)

well i wont deny that im not "privileged"

i get 24 hours unlimited water and electricty!!wooooooooohooooooooooo!!! (and its shocking that THAt is considered a freaking priviledge in a country that we believe is an emrging superpower!!!) i have the godrej's as my neighbours, ketan parekh was arrested and brought to my neighbourhood and its full of gujju's- just like me (: (yeah the godrejs sure do stick out...hehe)

as for am i productive...hmmm.. as of now- no. but im sure i will be (when i employ all the geeks who thot studies was everything in my factory/business..muahahahahah <------ dream) and well i am a consumer, and we need powerful consumers to keep the economy running...so technically i AM helping the economy even now... and thereby my children will too, even if they turn out to be bums cos atleast theyll spread the wealth... urban econ 101...yeahhh

no offense taken either man.. its all chilled..

nice post ft

ft: Its all right. No offence taken :)

Shash: I don't think you need to worry about the quality of the MSc. Physics course. There obviously won't be different professors for the MSc. and Btech courses for the same subjects. And considering that a lot of subjects will be common for both degrees, I don't think you'll face a problem with the education you'll get...its IIT after all!

But you should really decide what you want to do after 5 years at IIT, now. I mean, if you want to go abroad for graduate school, you would have basically wasted one year studying things you'll have to study all over again. If that's OK with you, I think you should go ahead and join. I firmly believe you should study what you want to, irrespective of reputation and scope. May the force be with you...

Well said :)

what 24 hrs and no posts???

sure. if someone destroys the communists overnight and the congress breaks all of its CMP guidelines, or the government falls and some sort of 3rt front wins the next elections (or someone eliminates the VHP overnight and the NDA wins again)

i dont think tht anil got screwed by any measures. he got 3 diversified co.s with diversified stream of revenues and higher growth potential unlike ril, which has high dependence on petro. what remains to be seen is how ril gives up its stake in these cos. and if there is a non-compete clause between these co.s thereby prohibiting mukesh to get into infocomm again and vice versa...
and yeah, anil's got good cos. + good chicks + bollywood + politics

adides, u majoring in economics? (ofcourse)

And yes shashank, that super 30 group was frontpage news here.. my question is -> if they are already selecting the best 30 out of 3000, that's 1% !! So you can hardly attribute their success to the coaching. It's the students themselves.. much like vidya mandir.

btw,

"For seven months we ate, drank and slept IIT. Watching TV and even cricket was a taboo."
Proclaiming so proudly! I am happy for these students though - since they totally set themselves to their task and got rewarded.
These 30 students have a no-frills existence as they lead a spartan life in rooms, which are paid for by Anand Kumar from his income from Ramanajan School of Mathematics he runs, they dine in a community kitchen and study in a thatched hut with corrugated roofing.

Unless they like it that way, I think the government should help them with some funds.
