The Indian Thread (TiT) # 15

I agree. I used the same matter of concern essay for my common app as well. But I only had one common app school....and got rejected lol.

I put the resume in with my school reports. Hopefully they'll think the principal typed them out and I'm not trying so hard to impress?

You've got me nervous. I specifically DIDN'T want to sound like I was trying too hard to impress. But yeah, you're right.

If my nick is too hard to type, you can call me Kriti. That's my name :).

Sure, that'll be all right then... At any rate, much of this process has gone out of our control now, it's almost the lack of any clear transparency/ the mystique of US college admissions, the manner in which there is no clear qualification that makes the entire process so worrying. Anyway, 'tis out of our hands now... the long wait begins!

For me, I sent a statement as to why I was involved in my ECs in the extra information section of those universities that had two extra information sections, while using the Activities section. Many of my ECs are self explanatory though, I mean Debating's pretty much a recognized EC throughout the world. I only used High School ECs though.

I hate applying from here. I had to do everything myself, and I know NO ONE who's applying / has applied to a US university as an undergrad. My school didn't have any experience either. I don't come from a metro, so there are no SAT prep classes, I just used Barron's (and to an extent, Kaplan) for the SAT Is and only Barron's for the SAT IIs.

I mean, the process is pretty clear, but it helps if you have someone you can ask questions. When I went to my school, they were like "what is this?!" and I said "an application for an American university." and they went "YOU MEAN AFTER 12th?!!" and I was like "..yeah."

Hey! damn! sorry I didnt know. Haha, I have no intention to make you nervous so Ill give you another peice of information.

Some schools will look at your SAT score and close your application and put it in the accepted pile if its high enough.

Well best of luck anyways! and yeah Kriti's a lot easier to type..even though it might be hard to pronounce..im probably the worst guy in the world for saying Indian names apart from mine haha

BTW - for everyone here I'm Aditya (or Ditty as my white freinds call me! haha)

I used the additional info section to explain my low ECs (in two lines), and wrote a paragraph about my orthopaedic and ocular problems.

Ditty> Not the schools I'm applying to. Top LACs and Ivies and UCs. Fat chance. Although... my essays are pretty good :<. I think so, anyway.

Best of luck to you too!

As for Kriti, say "Kristi" and leave out the S :). I'm sure you can pronounce Brit names.

Well you've discovered this site, albeit a little late, you can find info on most parts of the process here, although you're right, it is pretty much at the lag end of the entire process...

Yeah, normally that stuff onlu happens with like major big ass publics and that too not very often.

Yeah Brit names are easy, and thanks for the head up on the pronounciation much appreciated.

Damn, I gotta get more in touch with my own culture! haha

Yeah, I got through it on my own, luckily I have a lot of American friends online, whom I asked about 34573498573489 questions. That helped. And websites are very helpful. :). I'm just saying it wasn't very easy. Especially the school part.

Anyway, off I go to work on my Colgate essay. <3 Colgate.

Must admire your determination in applying though, Kriti. Bit of an analogous situation for me in that people from my school normally don't apply to the ivies but troop off instead to Michigan. We've got a regular tradition of about 6-7 people going there every year, but this year's the first time we've seen a whole bunch of people applying to Stanford, MIT, and the like.

You know we'll probably end this day with the largest number ever of posts of this thread. :) It's been a marathon day, hasn't it? Huge volumes of traffic today, strangely enough.

hahah yeah dude! TiTer's all the wayyy!!!! We're basically ruling the International section....

But of course, we don't spend all our lives on CC do we? :) (Nah, we do...)

I'm actually conducting an experiment in multitasking at the moment. Studying for Chem Organic Practicals while typing on CC. Should prove quite groundbreaking...
:D

Yay us!

Can some one tell me why on this thread, ass isn't censored and w tf is and prow ler is, even though one of the biggest college help publication is called college prow ler?

Well talk of donkeys aside, I'm sure they have their reasons... :)

Donkeys. Yeah. Of course. Too bad my mind's in the gutter.

I'm trying to get an essay done, but making no headway, because I'm talking to my Finnish and Pakistani CC friends on IM. AARGH. :).

Well, considering that it's for Colgate, your essay may well be about the reactions of Indians to your applying there. (Talk of toothpaste and the like) :D

Haha, not for "What would you pursue, design, or accomplish if money were no object?"

"I'd organise an awareness campaign in India that makes people aware that Colgate is first and foremost a top liberal arts college and THEN a toothpaste."

Wouldn't work :<. I doubt they'll like it. Besides, I can't write 250 words on that.
