Pretty much nothing, on a gap year of sorts, doing some work on software dev. but that's just some of my internal projects.

I dont really like posting stats, but guess they dont matter as much now:

SAT: 2090 (650R, 650W, 790M)
SAT 2: 800 in MathL2, Physics, Chem
TOEFL: 290/300 CBT
10th board: 85%
11th:80.1%
12th board: 85.2%
(ranked top 5% in 11th and 12th internals but screwed the boards)

ECs:

The usual debates, MUN, inter-school, yadda yadda, but I focused mainly on computer related achievements, got AIR 6 on the NCO once, and a web services company I ran for two years (shut down in Jan this year), and the entrepreneurship experience from that. Did a lot of freelance work in 11th, so threw that into the mix as well.

Right, no finaid, that's one thing that sucks, apart from the weather! The other thing is that most of CMU's academic credentials are shifted towards CS.

With CMU, a lot depends on which college you're applying to. SCS can be really cut-throat but Humanities (HSS) and Fine Arts (CFA) are much easier to get into, even Engineering (CIT) has a better acceptance rate than SCS.

Glad to see this thread is still alive. I hope the application process isn't too hard on you guys. Anyway, if you have any questions, I'll probably check this thread a couple of times in the next two days. Good luck with your decisions!

That also reminds me, would have loved to be in that Facebook class at Stanford, is it open for freshmen? Just wondering.

@Kumara - Industrial engg is pretty good at CMU but ECE is better known. If they are in the same college, which i think they are, then you can choose your major after getting in.

@Shruthi - That's mainly because their endowment is pretty bad for a college of their stature, around $1 billion, which has grown a lot recently but is still way behind MIT and Stanford.
