The Indian Thread (TiT) # 17

Yayyy you’re still trying for the US!

@thebigcheese:

Nice score!
Why was there such a big error?

In the e-mail that I recieved, they said that sometimes the papers aren’t placed in the scanner properly so thats why there was the error.
Anyway, does apply EA increase my chances of getting in to a college?

Ooh,thinking about such untoward stuff is itself scary man…

And yeah, even I wanna know what the advantages of applying early are?

You get your decision early! And the college gets a 100% yield on you :)

Congrats cheese!
@Quasi- Ancient population control measures! I’m surprised that the youth there are actually patient/tolerant enough to abide only by the tormenting rituals lol.

Well. You know. There’s a lot of extra-marital and pre-marital sex. Females of one of the tribes can fool around with half the village until they’re pregnant, after which they go back to the husband and he has to accept the kid as his own. And apparently the highest rate of suicide in the Muria Gond trible is due to extra-marital affairs. The Muria Gond also has ‘youth dormitories’, in which older women teach younger guys the ‘art of love’. It’s all kind of bizarre - I can’t get the different types of cross-cousin marriages straight in my head.

I still have 2 questions about ED-ing lingering in my mind: :)

1)If I do get accepted,do I have to join?What happens if I later,say in the month of May,say no?

2)Imagine I get rejected Early Decision at UPenn…can I still apply 2nd time during normal decision(that is the regular period)?

No, you HAVE to attend if you get in ED, and you withdraw all your other applications. Unless they don’t give you enough aid - you can back out then. If you accept another college’s offer in May, you’re a tad screwed.

If you’re rejected ED, you can’t apply again RD. If you’re deferred ED, the college will automatically consider you again in the RD round without you applying again.

What tetris said. Penn’s your first choice?

I recall smartchap mentioning something of the sort a while ago.

So Quasi, what’s second for you after Amherst?

Amherst is actually my second. Not applying to my first choice.

UPenn is one of my favourites…

Yale is probably third, though. Lol. Who says that out loud? What about you? What’s after Brown?

I don’t think I’ll ED.After weighing everything,I feel its too much a risk.

Imagine I get rejected by my top choice(probably an Ivy),I’ll have no chance of applying again later when my application is actually a little better.

Secondly,if I apply ED to a lower-tier university and get accepted,I won’t have a chance to apply to the biggies.

We are in the same boat smartchap :)

Doesn’t ED decrease the risk? Most acceptance rates practically double ED. (Increase by a sufficient number, anyway). All you need to know is that there’s nowhere else you’d rather go.

@Quasi: Why aren’t you applying to your top choice? (What is it, by the way?)

I don’t really have a clear-cut second choice…

My entire family doesn’t want me to. It’s kind of heartbreaking, but I’ll get over it. It’s a good thing I like Amherst so much. :)

Awww, I hope Amherst gets bowled over by you and that all becomes well in the universe :)
