The Journey Class of 2020 ... Denials, redirections, etc.

@craz4mtsmom I auditioned the same date! I’m still waiting to hear as well. I think it’s because they had spring break this week, so we will probably hear next Saturday.

Anyone know how many girls offered priority wait list for CMU MT and how many get in from it each year??? My D got that today.
She also finally got a yes from BOCO.
Thanks all!

@musicmama123 LOL… I am in the SAME boat. I have a junior D and I have spent way too much time on this board. However, I have learned a ton! I am honestly terrified of all of this MT stuff. I had NO CLUE how hard it was to get into a MT program until now. Hoping for the best!

We are nearly done with this process (only waiting on two more schools but my D has already started to embrace one of her accepts as her likely home for the next four years and is starting to reach out future classmates). Let me tell you, I was warned about how brutal this process would be – but, in the same way you really don’t know what life will be like as a parent until you become a parent, there really is no way to know and prepare for what it is going to be like to be an MT parent during the MT audition process until you are in it. Thank goodness my D is made of tougher stuff than her Mom! It has been a wild ride and one that I am happy to be putting behind us very soon. In the spirit of sharing here is our journey: 14 schools, 15 programs - and I think a good mix of reaches, middles and safety schools. Cleared pre-screens with Michigan (MT and Acting), Pace, Syracuse and Ithaca (yay for incremental victories), then rejections from each of them and also from CMU, Baldwin (with a redirect), Elon (with a redirect), JMU (with a redirect) and Point Park (with a redirect). Accepted into Rider (BFA MT), UNH (BA MT) and Wagner (BA Theater Performance) and academically admitted into Pace, Elon, JMU, Point Park, Baldwin - no guys, we aren’t going there for something else so quit emailing us!! Still waiting on Hartt and Syracuse. Going into this process Wagner was one of my daughter favorites from her middle group of schools, so she was happy with the acceptance and the very generous merit/talent scholarship that they offered. The proximity to NYC and reputation with Broadway professionals and agents is a huge plus. We’ve also heard that Wagner’s training program is more BFA-like than other BA programs. So lots of positives and we are ready to embrace willingly (if not a bit cautiously until the last two decisions come in - hopefully by Friday). Congratulations to all that are done and hang in there to the rest.

Congrats, @PickALittle, it sounds like your daughter will be in a great place. I like your comment about your daughter embracing her acceptances. My son is the same–beginning to love one of his to the extent that when a rejection came in the mail this morning, he didn’t care a bit! In fact, he was relieved as that means one less place to visit. So nice to be almost over!

@claire74 I hope he’s embracing the one my D is embracing and then they will be in a great place together!

@CTDramaMom, I’ll pm you a full report after our visit! Funny how this journey winds its way from over-confidence to dejection to happy anticipation!

SO true about how the emotions have run over time! I don’t think my D was ever over-confident, but she felt well prepared for these challenges and believed she had at least a fighting chance at nearly all the schools on her list. But eight rejections in a row pretty much destroyed all that! Lucky for us that was just bad luck in the order we received the decisions, and more recent notifications have brought her back toward the middle and she’s feeling good about a few of her options. But this emotional pendulum has been swaying in a wide arc to say the least! I can’t say enough how relieved we’ll all be when it’s over!

@fotokat, it is ME who was overconfident–how could anyone resist my gorgeous boy! He has been very low key and zen throughout! We had the same experience–a lot of rejections before the first acceptance and uphill since then.

@claire74 moms being in worse shape than the kids is also a common theme here! Certainly true in my house! Lol! :smiley:

Just got off the WL at Temple! :smiley: #freakingout

I said this elsewhere but YAAAAASSSS!!!

Thanks so much!! @stagedoormama :slight_smile: I’m just excited for everyone else who will get off a WL the coming months too!

Do people get off waitlists as of now? Not during June?

@destiny95, Congratulations! I suggest you start a new thread titled “I got off the wait list”, so that everyone can add their own wait list successes on the same thread. I think this would be helpful for next year’s candidates.

The big week for waitlists is the first week of May, though some come earlier and some later.

@MohTamer People will come off the waitlists from now until the term begins! Spreads out the fun :((

Our Journey started off exciting passing all his prescreens. Academics grades were a challenge. He cared more about being in shows then Algebra, Chemistry and studying for SAT despite my lecturing on the importance of GPA for college. He learned a hard lesson with Texas. It’s been quite a ride but after this process so grateful he has choices and a few nice talent scholarship. I am hoping he learn a few lessons on the way. The business they are going into is full of rejection so hopefully this process toughens them up for the future. It is heartbreaking when it happens. I am proud of him and all the other kids for being so brave. Watching them all at Unifieds you had to admire them all. I know once they are in a program they will love it and grow. Hoping everyone lands and is happy on the end.

@Momsingson
Wow congratulations to your Son!!! His grades may not have been up there, but he got accepted to a lot of great programs, hope he is happy and excited about at least one of them.Traditional school is hard for many. In todays world it is really crazy. So little time to let kids grow and so little time to let other talents develop,

@Momsingson
Congratulations to your Son…and to you, for handling this with class and wisdom. I think we’ve all been on this very emotional journey and are just beginning to lift our heads and take stock of what just happened…and what we’ve learned about our kids and ourselves. Yeah, we’re going to appreciate these lessons as these talented kids pursue these very challenging careers. Your Son has great choices…and has learned some great lessons. And that’s really what we want, right?
