@svamom Yes it was to you and yes like you we are open, to many directions…Good luck!
Let’s hear it for decision time @svamom!! Cannot wait to hear where everyone ends up.
Congrats on the wait lists to CMU! My S was priority wait listed for acting at CMU so yay! He was rejected from Minnesota Guthrie and wait listed at DePaul. We are waiting on Mason-Gross this week and doing a major road trip next week to visit four schools.
Am I the only one who cannot wait to have my life back but will secretly miss the bonding that comes from staring at a portal with your kid at midnight?
@VaTheatreMom2020 - Yes!!! I am going to miss it all- bonding with my child, bonding with other families that are going through this, gathering information…etc! We are only waiting on NYU now… which I know won’t come out until April 1st- so I am already worried that I will be bored this week. It is nice to see my daughter getting excited about her current options and asking questions on accepted pages. I guess my final “job” will be trying to figure out if any of her 3 wait lists will open up. She is highly interested in one of them and one of the others will definitely be our best financial option. Congrats to everyone for surviving this process so far. I think when the stress of this is over- It is really going to sink in that my baby is leaving in the fall! We can all meet up in a new thread to cry together in August!
@sleepymom I will join you on that thread and good luck with NYU and the wait lists!
Woo-hoo, congrats @rampions and @HappyDancer98! Way to go on the CMU WLs!!!
Woo-hoo@mtmamma2020!!! Hooray!!!
Trying again!! BIG CONGRATULATIONS @mtmamma2020!!!
Congrats to @VaTheatreMom2020 son for priority wait list for acting at CMU! That is amazing.
@rampions Congrats! How awesome!!
We went through this process last year, and I find myself checking in occasionally to root for this year’s class. I appreciate you @boatmom reminding everyone at this stressful time that even the kids who have some great acceptances have their fair share of rejections.
Last year, my D applied to a mixture of straight acting and MT, but mostly MT. Accepted academically everywhere except NU. Some of her best merit scholarships were at schools that ended up rejecting her artistically, and that was painful!
Applied: UNCSA, MInnesota- Guthrie, Syracuse, UMich, CCM, Elon, BU, Indiana, Penn State, UNC-Chapel Hill (safety), Western Carolina, NU, Indiana, Cornish
Rejected: UNCSA, Minnesota, UMich, NU
Wait- list: Penn
Accepted: Elon, CCM, Syracuse, BU, Cornish, UNC
*cancelled auditions at Indiana and Western once had acceptances that were higher on her list.
You will come out on the other side of this crazy process. Sending positive thoughts out to you all!
Hello all. I found this site a month or so ago and I have to say thank you to all of the folks who have posted! You have helped more than you know. Our oldest daughter plays soccer in college and I thought that recruiting was crazy. Recruiting does not hold a candle to this carnival ride! Fortunately we made a pretty varied list so my daughter has options but she has certainly had her fair share of rejections. And like so many others, the schools which have given her the most academic money did not admit her into their MT program. I just sat down yesterday and made the spreadsheet which breaks down what each school will cost; I believe with this degree in particular, my D should not graduate with debt. Still waiting on a few, but I think she knows where she will attend. It was a school not even on her radar until unifieds and it is only five hours from home. Not what she initially thought she wanted but I think, in the end, it will be a great fit for her and for our family. Thanks again to each of you for helping me through this ridiculous process.
Rejected: FSU, UCF, Ithaca and Elon
Wait listed: BSU
Accepted: Tampa, FL Southern, Rider, UAB and LIU
Waiting on Montclair and Webster
@mtmamma2020 Thank you and huge congrats on BoCo - love that school!
@hopeful1212 My D auditioned March 12th. and we have not heard it is on the “still waiting” list…but they told us it should really be only 2 weeks so…any minute now
Reading your posts have been my sanity! We started slow and a bit despondent but ended well!! The prescreen rejections really stung . We assumed that since we started with a string of rejections, they would continue:(. Thankfully we were wrong and I know my D learned a lot about resilience through this process!
Rejections: Otterbein (prescreen) Indiana (prescreen) Elon, Point Park
Redirects: Emerson, Milliken, Ohio Northern
Waitlists: Ball State, Marymount Manhattan
Acceptances BFA MT: Alabama Birmingham, LIU Post, Roosevelt CCPA, Drake, Central Michigan
Waiting on: NONE!
I hope that we and our kids are all smiling and excited about the future as May approaches!!! Best of luck to everyone. Now for the final decisions…While a happier process, still stressful in itself! Balancing programs/faculty/campuses/location/finances to come up with the perfect fit is tricky. A waitlist offer from her favorite school would really help lol.
Hello all - I agree, this site has helped so much. I never thought I would be on here for two years but that’s how it all worked out…my D is currently in a BA MT program which she hates. She chose the school last minute for all the wrong reasons - long story! So this year she is a transfer. She only applied to five schools and figured if she didn’t get in, she would rethink her route into this business. She really loves acting for tv/film but is not sure about attending school in California (we are east coast) and not sure if we could afford it with the extra traveling expense. Still waiting on fin aid packages. As a transfer you find out everything, including fin aid, later than the freshman. Ugh - the waiting is the worst!
Pace - rejected (admitted academically)
Ithaca - accepted but redirected to BFA Acting
Chapman - accepted for Screen Acting
Syracuse - waiting for BFA Acting - her MT pre-screen was rejected
USC - waiting (they actually say by JUNE 1st for transfers!!)
@VaTheatreMom2020 thanks! I also can’t wait for this process to be over with so we can start getting excited about the school he chooses. It’s so dang stressful and I feel like I’m living with an alien at the moment lol
Congrats on the CMU wait list! That’s something to be proud of in addition to the other programs he’s been accepted into.
I came across this quote on Twitter yesterday from a college financial planner I’ve been following and man does this hit home for my son.
“Don’t spend time lamenting a college rejection; invest in attending a school that has already decided to invest in you with an acceptance”.
Love it @svamom!
@actkid that program at Chapman is very competitive congrats!! Chapman is a lovely campus and they usually are fairly generous w scholarship so ask!
Thanks @mtmamma2020 It will be a hard choice! Deciding between opposite coasts and completely different programs. Not easy! We’ll see what happens with the $.
Has anyone had any experience with asking for more $ and how to go about it? Just want to be prepared…
@actkid Chapman was my sons #1, unfortunately no merit was awarded and thus far no talent either. So we took it off the table due to cost. Good luck to you and hopefully you will have a better outcome than we did
