The kid's audition/s - why am *I* so nervous?

Don't worry, Mezzo. A lot of us have already "graduated" from our first audition season and we're still hooked. It's always a pleasure to add another alum.

Thanks!! I was about to suffer from early "separation anxiety"!

I think you will find that the less control you have on your developing musician/student the more compelling this forum becomes........

I came to this forum when my S was a senior in high school. Found it via a Google search on what to wear to music auditions. It took me to the musical theater page; the music forum we know and love didn't exist back then. My S is now in his first year of grad school. I can quit anytime I want. Really.

I can quit any time also... DS will get his masters in May. BUT if I quit, who will hold MY hand during HIS auditions?

... not to mention, your grandchildrens' auditions..... hehehe

Wow, time flies. :bz I popped back in to help my sister out with college options for her son, and was reminded of this thread. What a blast from the past!

Since I started this thread, I’ve learned to somehow be just as anxious, and yet more relaxed about it. A large part of that has been in watching D’s development as a singer and as an actress. Long gone are the days when an opera singer can just plant herself and deliver an aria.

In high school she’d once had her heart set on Julliard, but as seems to so often happen, the school that emerged at the end of that harrowing auditions/admissions process was the perfect match for her and for her needs at that time. In fact, she stayed for two more years, earning her Masters in vocal performance at MSM this past spring. And now, she continues her studies at Curtis.

@BassDad, @srw - I don’t know how helpful I can be, as I am not the one who sings the auditions, nor am I the one who deals with all the ins and outs of conservatory life once there. But I can say to anyone interested, roll with the punches. You never know where life will go. The unexpected might be the best thing that will have happened to you.

What a journey!..

LOL at I can’t swing.
