Hi All,
4 LAC with theater programs providing talent scholarships were added on the college list late August. I’m drafting the travel schedule to look at these schools, which are within a 2-6 hours drive, some a day trip, some require an overnight. Introvert actor kid is better when he has time to process, so at first I thought 2 trips, one to just see the school, no audition or interview, and then go back after he’s had some time to think and be better prepared for interview. Then I thought about scheduling the double trips (which is nuts, I know) and for time economy just tour/audition/interview 1 trip and hope for the best. For example, if you know you have an audition and interview coming up, can the mind even be clear for the tour? What have your experiences been?
Schedule the audition first and then the tour and info session will be very relaxed and enjoyable. For the overnight stay, try to arrange for your student to audit an acting class or better-yet, to spend at least part of the day shadowing an acting student.
I personally would not do 2 trips until after an acceptance to do an accepted students visit. I strongly encourage the accepted student visit, too. The perspective a student has visiting a campus as a WANTED candidate vs visiting as a WILL-THEY-ACCEPT-ME?" candidate is vastly different.
My daughter likes the reverse–once she’s toured, she has more to talk about in the interview. If that can’t happen, see if you can get tix to a school performance the night before the interview (for overnights). Also gives them something to talk/ask questions about.
