The Macaulay thread

well...many of us applied to this because of the free tuition. So regardless of all the goodies...Macaulay is a good choice of those of us who are aiming at/saving up for ivies for grad school :)

Guys, tuition at cuny is very cheap. Its around 4-8k a yr. If you applied to Macaulay and have a shot of getting in then you would most likely have ended up with free tuition if you went regular. Also Cuny gives good fin aid/ and scholarships, so you would never pay much Macaulay, or no Macaualy

Granted I live in the burbs and could technically commute (would take the room though) but a nice single room! in the city is almost motivation enough to go. **** spending 500 a month in rent just to split a studio apartment with 5 other starving students. No one can say Macaulay isnt an amazing deal. Right now for me it comes down to the quality of academics. Still waiting on a bunch of reaches.

cheers,
Mike

wow 3,ooo plus views!

did any one atttend the class of 2013 day at hunter? I know I was there, but I just wanted to see if I passed any fellow college-confidential users by.

I was there. They really went all out. Still not sure If im going to go but it makes the decision a lot easier.

lol i went. i already misplaced the bag they gave us lol

Judging by this page alone, many people seem to think that Macaulay is just about the free tuition. That’s probably about #10 on the list of great things about the program.

as a frustrated waitlister, I agree, crackednugget!!

mainefox - i agree, and I’m sorry about your waitlist woes. Macaulay is so much mroe than the free stuff. They give you the free stuff so you can explore NYC and everything about it to the fullest extend. They want you to integrate yourself into every aspect of the college experience, the city, and the community with a small group of people and a small group of advisers who will make sure you reach success wherever you want to go, and I’m honored to have been seen as someone worthy of what they’re offering.

Sarmango - stop! you are making my wait list woes worse! Just tell me you hate it so I can feel better!!

So, who’s applying this year? I’m applying ED to MHC at Hunter! I REALLY wanna go!

That’s great to hear Damon. The more time I spend here the more I love it. MHC at Hunter is amazing!

is queens dorming free for MHC students?

So MHC only accepts SATs and not ACTs??? on the website it says that they accept either, but when i went to an information meeting, they only spoke about SAT scores. One current student even said that for MHC students attending schools that do not provide housing, CAN dorm at one of the buildings used for housing for schools that do provide housing… is this true?

Alright let me answer a few q’s here. I personally was admitted to Hunter with just my act score (my 33 was much better than my sat), just submit both or whatever is better. The only college that offers free housing that I know of is Hunter (singles on 25th street, they’re awesome!). Lehman might also but I’m not sure. I do know Queens and City have residence halls but you’d have to pay for them. As to say going to Queens and dorming at Hunter as far as I know you can’t do that as it’s limited to Hunter students (if your not an athlete, Macaulay student, or grad student you have about a .00001% chance of getting housing anyways though). Good luck guys and let me know if you have any more questions.

It’s good to hear that you can get in on ACT scores. Are they more interested in seeing the cumulative ACT score or do they look at the individual reading and math scores too? It’s okay if you don’t know about that though. Also, is it better to send in supplementary materials. I’m just scared that if I don’t, my thin application will get skimmed over compared to someone who sends in a bunch of extra stuff.

I think they do look at all individual scores in addition to the composite (I don’t think they super score the act per say but I think they take it into account if you send two test’s). Might want to call them on that though. As to supplementary materials I sent in a resume with a lot of work experience and internship. Just make sure you do a real bang up job on the essay’s but EC’s are also pretty important (as always gpa and scores are the two biggest factors).

What SAT scores and averages did all of you guys have, that you were accepted to Hunter Macaulay?

Bringing this up. Macaulay decisions in a month, woot
