The Meaning of Gpa

Hello, fellow ccers...

So i'll cut to the chase. My GPA is about a 3.7 which, in my school translates to top 8 ish percent in the class. however, that 3.7 GPA is weighted and my weighted (numerical) Gpa is 96.75. Maximum numerical gpa in my school is maybe a 104.
All of my classes are either honors or AP classes ( 3 last year) but I do have the requisite gym, study hall, health classes which are not honors and so bring down my gpa.
My GPA represents 2 B's as final grades in freshman year, 2 B's in sophomore year and 1 B in Junior year( the rest were A's). Keep in mind that a 92 is a B in my school. My school sends maybe 3 or 4 kids to ivies every year. so where does my GPA put me? Some people tell me my GPA is very low compared to a 4.1. And others have a 3.7 GPA and C's on their transcript. for some reference; I put down my AP Scores with the grade i received in each class.

Bio Grade in class: 97
Ap bio:5

Ap English Lang grade in class: 100
Ap Lang: 5

Ap USH grade in class: 101
APUSH test :5

So where is my gpa in terms of admission. Is my gpa low like a 3.3 at another school or high like a 4.0. Right now, since my school doesn't unweight gpa's i don't really know the value of my GPA.

thanks.

Colleges will look at where you rank because they need to give contect to the GPA. It doesn’t matter what the number is, they will see you’re top 8%. That probably means an ivy/peer is unlikely at a school that sends 4 to them (unless your class size is tiny), but it means you’re in the race for many good schools.

Huh that’s interesting. My GPA unweighted is currently at a 3.72, but a 5.58 weighted, meaning I’m in the top 2% of my class. In which case my “low” GPA is okay?

I’m in the same boat as you…mediocre GPA but very high rank and good scores. So far, people have told me I’ll be fine. In fact, at my school, the people who got into top colleges were the ones with GPAs in our range but who showed a ton of commitment to ECs. Yet most of our past couple of vals and sals focused too much on grades and didn’t put much effort into ECs.

bump, need more input.

Does your school use weighted or unweighted rank?

They never unweight ranks !!!v AAAAHHHHHH!!! and I don’t know how do it because
if i unweight the ranks
the system is so complicated.
