Religions were created by man merely to keep humans from going koo-koo.

469

or not

obviously it's 42, if you've ever read Hitch-Hiker's Guide to the Galaxy

What are these numbers?
I don't think i'm intelligent enough to understand them, so if you would be kind enough to explain them....

Not numbers, number. 42. Not 469. 42 = The Ultimate Answer to Life, the Universe, and Everything. I guess a lot of people read Douglas Adams' novels. If you have no clue what I am talking about, read Hitch-Hiker's Guide to the Galaxy.

to summarize... the people in the book build a supercomputer to answer all questions... i.e. the meaning of life after 7 odd years? it spits out the answer 42? if i recall correctly

Basically, the mice (yes mice!) build Deep Thought, the second most powerful computer of all time. They ask it to give them the answer to life, the universe, and everything and it spits out 42 after a couple million years or so. The book is kind of weird but funny.

The meaning of life is to make your own unique meaning to it.

For me, it's living until I'm 79 or so (or whatever age I'm about to die at) looking back at the things I did and being satisfied and not regretting what I did or didn't but just being able to say, "Well some great times and yes, some sh i t happened as well, but I wouldn't do it any differently." That is what I want my life to mean.

Which religion do you think makes you live life to the fullest? and say..."i wouldn't do it any differently" ?

cujoe, if you are still wondering, im from Ocean County.(Dont you think less of me now?) :)

these kinds of debates go on forever @ http://forums2.jolt.co.uk/forumdisplay.php?f=1227

the meaning of life it to make your mark in the world by fulfilling your pupose in life. in most cases, that means making use of a certain talent. but this brings another question. what if you have a talent for something but because of circumstances outside of your control, you can't ever know that you have talent in it? also, can someone justifiably say they have tennis talent, since tennis is a man-made sport? athletic talent, perhaps, but not anything more specific. maybe this tennis talent people claim they have is really only a reflection of the right combination of skills inherent in them that this sport also values?

To retire early? and live off of social security?

What's the purpose of life?

And the purpose of highschool life?

haha, I'm well aware that 42 is from the HGTG.

reproduce and pass of "favorable" genes

the meaning of life is.. an infinite search for "SELF"

We discover our likes and dislikes 24/7
We always look for something better to do
We always look for SOMETHING
Your search continues until your last breath

So I say search for "Self"

I just discovered the meaning of life! Turns out it was in the dictionary all along.

"The property or quality that distinguishes living organisms from dead organisms and inanimate matter, manifested in functions such as metabolism, growth, reproduction, and response to stimuli or adaptation to the environment originating from within the organism." (dictionary.com)
