The counselors told D that Bucknell was a sure thing. She needed no aid. Lots of kids from our high school have gone there and enjoyed it. She visited. She applied for the Posse scholarship from Bucknell. She went to a meet-and-greet on her HS campus. Her numbers were right in the sweet spot.

And she was waitlisted. What the heck?

Personally, I am so annoyed that I would tell her not to go there unless they came back to her on bended knee.

Unless they offered her money . . . :)

She'll go to UMD or William&Mary instead. Harumph!

Each school that participates in Posse has its own policies about handling those candidates. Bucknell may have already taken this year’s quota of Posse students.

She has other options. She’ll be fine. Maybe you will be too.

Herein lies the problem:

With the exception of community college, the admissions process is NEVER a sure thing.

Your daughter’s HS needs better counseling. No applicant to Bucknell is a “sure thing.” Think of it this way: for all applicants, even the best, the Ivies and others in the same range are ALWAYS reach schools. Therefore, anything directly under them can be matches, at best. Bucknell is in that range. Remember that match schools are never a sure thing.

But William and Mary is extremely tough for an OOS applicant, so you should celebrate that acceptance. Some top rate students attend, which should make the classroom and campus life wonderful for an intellectually engaged student. Congratulations to her!

psht W&M > Bucknell

so don’t sweat it.

I was rejected by LSU Honor’s instate with a 31 ACT and 3.92 gpa + valedictorian.

Lol.
