The Network TV Series That You Watched/Loved Post-Series

Yes, MASH was a classic. If we’re really digging into the archives, the Honeymooners, Mary Tyler Moore, Dick Van Dyke, Taxi, I Love Lucy, All In The Family.

I watched some Mary Tyler Moore episodes recently. Although the clothes and furniture are dated, the jokes hold up and are still funny.

Are these shows like MTM available to watch streaming? I admit whatever I watch I want it to look decent on the screen

I was at my ophthalmologist yesterday and spent a life time in the waiting room, waiting for dilation to kick in (plus he overbooks appointments so you’re there FOREVER) and the TV in there was playing episodes of Night Court. Don’t think it aged well–by the 3rd episode I was contemplating making a run for it! The way John Larouquette’s character treats women is very “icky” by today’s standards.

I watch MTM and other classic shows on MeTV Memorable Entertainment) on cable. Another classic is The Odd Couple.

I started watching Parenthood tonight - a couple episodes in, it should probably stick!

Parenthood was my vote  Hope you like it.

Two shows I like last year from PBS

Atlantic Crossing. It was about Norway’s relationship with the US for WWII. Not many episodes (6?) but really good.

World on Fire. This was the first season about Britain entering WWII, first in Poland and then France. It was renewed for a second season which I’m looking forward to this year.

I was never a fan of Mary Tyler Moore, but I loved Lou Grant.

The Americans is still one of the best written and acted series I’ve ever watched. I’ve begun watching it again and am noticing so much I probably missed the first time around.
If you’re looking for light, mindless entertainment then it won’t be for you. If you’re interested in historically sound, well plotted drama, then you can’t do better.

I agree, my husband was reluctant to watch the Americans because he thought it would be either too depressing or too violent, and sometimes it was a little uncomfortable, but I’d put it in the top ten of any series I’ve seen ever.

I started watching Scrubs with my daughter (premed) this weekend. I’d forgotten how great a show it was! Thank you to whoever made that suggestion.

This is Us (the premiere episode - not that the rest of it isn’t good, but because you can pick whatever season you want to binge after that.)

As another who likes a lot of the older classics, just wanted to mention MeTV is available over the air in many locations, in case you don’t have cable.

When I was a child, my grandmother (who lived with us) used to love The Honeymooners. I thought it was stupid then, but realize now how hilarious it is. Too bad there was only one season.

I Love Lucy is still timeless, amazing considering it’s 70 years old now!

OH, I just remembered one of my absolute favorites–Northern Exposure. It eventually jumped the shark, but the first few years were magic.

So a lot of the ones I was thinking of have been mentioned:
Desperate Housewives
Ally McBeal
Family
Everwood
I loved all of these!
Both Desperate Housewives and Ally McBeal could make me laugh out loud!
Has anyone mentioned Six Feet Under? That was quirky, good show. Peter Krause who’s in Parenthood was in that also.

Yeah, vintage tv probably deserves a thread of its own. But, I gotta give credit where credit is due: the Dick Van Dyke Show sure stands up for a comedy series that is 60 years old. Even watching MTM portray a housewife is very droll in a way that was probably unintended.

Has anyone mentioned the Carol Burnett Show? That one never failed to make me lol

I tried to watch Northern Exposure a few years ago with my daughter & it moved soooo slowly. I loved it at the time, but I think we all have gotten used to more action. Sad, really. My D refused to watch anymore after a 2 or 3 episodes. Note that at least then it didn’t stream anywhere, so I tried to borrow it from the library - season 1 was missing, so I bought season 1 from Amazon (on DVDs!) and borrowed Season 2 - after we only watched a couple of episodes I returned Season 2 and donated Season 1. The library was very happy to get the donation at least!

Six Feet Under was a good show!

Another quirky show that I loved and was disappointed when it was canceled… Pushing Daisies. I read there may be a reboot but have not seen anything definitive about that.
