The Network TV Series That You Watched/Loved Post-Series

Not for everyone, but one Christmas, I bought my H the bbc box set of Colditz. Like most old shows, it’s more like being in a theatre than today’s realistic television. Despite its low budget look, it was surprisingly very good…hard to not watch one more episode. If you can get your hands on the series, I recommend it highly.

Nashville - one of those shows I missed while it was on live. Loved the first couple of seasons, the last ones, not so much.

Loved Americans! Very gripping.

Just watched the first episode of Six Feet Under. Might take a bit to get into it. Thinking about also checking out Yellowstone.

Dawson’s Creek.

I have an app that is helpful for finding where to view shows:

JustWatch

I just heard of another one, but I haven’t used it yet.

TV Time

I use JustWatch. It is helpful to see which streaming service has the show or movie. But also great is the ability to put a title on “watchlist” (it’s not so intuitive at first, especially for a potential series where you “Track Show” and mark it as None watched). That’s what I do when somebody mentions a show here (or a movie on the other thread) that sounds interesting. When husband and I are looking for something new to watch, I pull out my Watchlist - ha, then he vetoes many of them, but hey at least I have a list.

I had kinda watched this while it was on live. I binged this series recently and was surprised to find that I had actually watched most of the series. It was a fun binge.

One of my kids is named for a character from Northern Exposure!

Haven’t seen West Wing, The Americans or FNL – may not be H’s cuppa tea, but I want to get to those.

Shteisel
Srugim
Downton Abbey
World on Fire
St. Elsewhere (loved that show in the 80s)
Six Feet Under
Mrs. Maisel
MASH
Law & Order and spinoffs
Sopranos
Game of Thrones
Chernobyl
Gentleman Jack
My Brilliant Friend (watching this now on HBOmax)

Bookmarking this thread because there are so many great suggestions!

Several of these series were cable instead of network so maybe should be recommended on the binge thread.

Season 1 and 2 of Pushing Daisies is available on HBO Max.

I remember the days when I watched so many different ABC shows. I had solid three hour blocks on Thursday nights for what seems like several years.

I’m in the 2nd season of Parenthood now and I won’t spoil anything but will say…

  1. this aired in the early 2000’s? I’m surprised how much of it seems already outdated to me.
  2. The Braverman father drives me nuts. Seriously cannot stand the way he acts (Mr. Macho)
  3. The best character/actor is Dax Shepard! I really have not known Dax as an actor but more for his podcast and life story. His character Crosby seems VERY much Dax in real life and I so enjoy his character.

I’ll def keep watching but do feel the show so far is very predictable.

We started Friday Night Lights for the first time about a week ago. I appreciate how they give the Reader’s Digest version of each game so I don’t have to actually watch football. And Tim Riggins is waaaay cuter than Jason Street. Why can’t Lyla see that?

LOL, “Lyla” shows up on Parenthood!!!

Yea, there seems to be a few young actors/actresses that appear in various other shows.

I suppose Parenthood is rather predictable. In a way that can be nice, without all the Huh? moments in This is Us.

I’m up to season 3 now. Thanks to everyone who encouraged me to continue. It definitely got better.

But I do have to say, I do spend a fair amount of time fast forwarding through some scenes - football games, fights, church services.

Despite what was said upthread, I didn’t find Season 2 to be bad; it just seemed unresolved, which can be attributed to the writers strike. Which is not dissimilar to many network shows of the 2020-2021 season. But it seems like they just dropped some storylines and characters going into Season 3 as a result - no mention of Santiago, as an example.

I started watching Parenthood after I saw part of one episode of one of the later seasons when it was originally on tv. I wanted to find out more about what was going on but decided to watch the whole series from the beginning. I finished shortly after the final episode of the series. I actually didn’t care for that plotline when I got to it, but I did enjoy the show.

And a funny story - I was visiting in NYC and they were filming an episode of a show near the Natural History museum. I thought someone said Gilmore Girls so a few of years later I started watching that on Netflix. Got hooked on it but when the scene in NYC never occurred I did some research and realized I’d seen them filming an episode of Gossip Girl which is set in NYC. It was around 2012 and Gilmore Girls had ended by then. I never would have watched Gilmore Girls otherwise but I did enjoy it (mostly). And I haven’t yet watched Gossip Girl.

Since I have two daughters both Gilmore Girls and Gossip Girl were series that we watched. My D used to see Gossip Girl being filmed at various locations when she was in college in NYC beginning in 2010. I am watching Gossip Girl again from the beginning by myself when H is doing other things on the weekend.

Oh, don’t worry about Lyla with respect to Riggins.

Part of the reason I was advised to skip season two was that the series basically pretended it hadn’t happened the next year. Also, some over the top drama that I am glad I missed.

Dallas was on one of the free streaming channels. Back in the day I loved it.

I wonder if Moonlighting is on Freevee or similar. I liked that one too.
