Im currently a junior in high school and really want to go to a college in NYC. Im an artsy person and have thought about colleges all across America, and The new school and pratt are ones I really like. I have family that lives in Manhattan and have been there many times! I also like Philly and Chicago (basically I want to go to a big city!)

For grade wise, my grades are not great but not terrible. I have a weighted 3.3 gpa, but will go up since I am currently in 2 AP classes, and next year im in 3 more. Im from an island North Carolina and AP classes here bring up your grade 2 levels, like a C in the class ends up as an A at the end of the year and so on. Ive taken the SAT once and bombed it (1200 combined with writing), my test taking is horrible and I end up driving my self crazy and unable to focus. I have the ACT next week tho which im studying for.

As for extra curricular, I have clubs but I really only do art stuff. Im trying to go to school for photography, thats my passion. Ive taken pictures my whole life. I have a family of artists so artsy stuff comes naturally. My dad got me really into it in 7th grade by buying me a nice camera, taking me places out of the country for pictures and sending me on trips with pro photographers. I also my own website just for fun in 8th grade and Ive gotten pretty good. Ive had pieces in art shows too and have 3 portfolios already of different series of photo montages! Alot of people say I have to consider the price of living in those places, but im from an outrageous priced island so expensive stuff is normal!

What do you think my chances of getting into any art school or college in NYC/Philly?

New School tuition and NYC cost of living is expen$$$ive. Once you get your financial aid package, think carefully about whether the debt is worth it based on your expected salary and other college offers.
Yes agree with @WildestDream. The New School is known for pretty bad financial aid. NYU too. But you’ll have to check your offers of aid. If you want to study art in NYC and you have family, you may want to consider CUNY schools. They are rock-bottom prices, some have excellent professors. They are bargains! One tactic is to come here and do a gap year (maybe take classes at the Art Students League at 57th Street) (link for Art Students League which trained some of the world’s most famous artists – http://www.theartstudentsleague.org/ ) and work maybe in a museum or gallery. Once you gain your in-state residence, tuition runs between approx $6K-$8K per year. You can’t really get much cheaper. And remember: this is NYC. There are so many resources at your fingertips regardless of where you go to school. You may want to look at –
FIT (a SUNY not a CUNY and lauded as one of the best fashion progs worldwide prob because it’s located in the fashion district. It also offers film, commercial art, and business courses etc.) http://www.fitnyc.edu/
If you want to try to raise your grades and then get admitted into a school, you could try the art programs at LaGuardia Community College – http://www.laguardia.edu/finearts/
one of the top design programs is VCUARTS in Richmond ,Va. And Richmond is a very cool city. I suggest you take a look. Its grad program is ranked #2 in the country behind only Yale. And its considerable more affordable than many of the other schools.
