I forgot who it was that was wondering if their son was a NMF when some of the students at their school had heard and their student had not heard. Hopefully this will be helpful information for you. My DD18 saw the letter today that was sent from national merit to her school. For some reason when we asked for a copy of the letter to use for her scholarship, we thought it would be a personalized letter for each student, but it is a letter addressed to the school, and then it has a list of all the NMF for the school including student name, birth date, National merit ID number for the student, and selection unit #. Our school didn’t mind giving her a copy of this list because DD18 was the only NMF at our school (out of 300 in her class) so there was no confidential info about anyone else on the letter.
@GoAskDad - you are right- it is so sad with more loss of life. I hesitated to post anything but I thought it might help to post the info in case it might help anyone still looking for NMF info for their kids. My heart goes out to everyone and their families in Florida.
Whenever I think I understand American high schools, CC proves me wrong and really gives me a perspective. 43 NMSF! That’s so strange to me! Out of my class of ~400, we have 3. We’re a public high school in NH… I often forget how different things are at giant schools or private schools.
No news here in NH, anyone else?
S18’s high school has only 75 graduating seniors and had five NMSF - I think they all made Finalists, though I’m not sure bc so many kids are out sick. Two years ago, they had SIX NMFs and three of them ended up getting into Stanford - in one year! Amazing for such a small school! But it’s a private day school that’s very rigorous, so kids tend to do really well academically overall.
Plano public school 1400 kids, 77 NMSF. Last year, they all made it through to NMF. This year waiting!
Highest in Texas.
Crickets from the school but Informed Delivery Digest showing a letter from NMSC addressed to D is arriving in today’s mail. It’s a regular, legal-sized envelope!
Hesitated to post this out of respect for those mourning in Florida. My thoughts and prayers are with all of them. Sharing this info for those waiting and with deadlines looming. We are located in PA.
Ditto! We are in Oklahoma.
Ditto in SE Nebraska. Nothing from school but Informed Delivery for the win! So relieved!
Got letter yesterday. Finally!
School has max 1 per year (250 kids per grade). So unusual and exciting here.
@susan1323 does your informed delivery look like the letter is a normal size? My DD is getting a letter today and it looks normal sized but other commenters are saying it is a half of a big envelope size.
Letter showing in Informed Delivery here today too (Houston suburb).
D18 got her certificate from her GC yesterday. She wasn’t on the bubble but it was nice to have the confirmation. 3 finalists out of her class of 72. 6 additional commended.
@bama2000 My DS envelope is normal size letter. I believe the references to the larger envelopes was for people who home school and function as the Principal. The envelopes that went to Principals were the larger envelopes. Our mail doesn’t get delivered until late afternoon so I won’t be completely relieved until we open that envelope!
Looks like there is something (regular sized letter) in informed delivery from NMSC here in Southern California. I’m curious why the school has not said anything to my son. He is not on the bubble seems to be a cinch for NMF. Congratulations to all!
USPS Informed Delivery in Edmond, OK, shows an incoming letter today from NMSC. Regular-sized, legal envelope. I am going to inspect it to see if I can spot where it was tied to the carrier pigeon’s leg, or the dust from the Pony Express rider’s trail.
Informed delivery shows a letter from NMSC arriving today here as well. No info from principal yet either.
“there’s a whole page on CC with the liberal elite academics complaining it’s unfair and not reflective of future performance”
If it’s the thread near this one, that’s an extreme mis-representation of the discussion there, which is by no means political.
I love informed delivery! It’s finally here! Still no certificate from the school, though.
Hurray, the NMF letter to the student arrived today in Northern Virginia. I have it in my hand (unopened), and it’s a #10 (regular) white envelope with a single piece of paper inside. Presorted first-class mail, no stamp.
