The no-news-is-good-news NMF rejection/acceptance/worry thread, Class of 2018

No mail yet !

All quiet on the western front.

All quiet on the eastern front

I just read over the no-news…thread from 2017. Looks like last year most letters were rec’d the week after MLK week, looked like it started in the Midwest with notifications arriving that mon/tues, then Texas, Florida, east coast by the end of the week. Wonder if it will follow suit this year.
We still have another college accept/reject notice and some scholarship notices we are waiting on- all should be around Feb 1st. I know it’s suspenseful but I am actually enjoying this opportunity to really start to grasp the idea of my son attending college:) NMF is not a make or break deal for his college of choice, but would definitely be nice!
Good luck to everyone and keep us posted!

I love this crowdsource intelligence gathering!

Ah, so by seeing here that nobody on here has received a letter, it seems like NM Corp. sends them out later than in years past. Stay calm–I can’t remember the kind of perverse anticipation of walking to the mailbox hoping NOT to find a letter.
And yes, @GoAskDad, it seems like yesterday everyone in the class of 2016 on this forum was commiserating over rejection letters. I can’t believe that was 2 years ago tomorrow I got my rejection letter, but as I’ve attested to before, I eventually got over it as I settled into my college career. In retrospect, it’s a blessing in disguise I was rejected (though I’m not advocating this for everyone else). The scholarship I was really aiming for the fall of my senior year that was attainable only with NMF status actually did not allow for one to drop a class without risking losing the scholarship. I had to drop a class, and the scholarship I’m on now allows for it as long as you pay back the funds. So I’m just here to attest that life has its twists and turns (and being rejected certainly was one of them in my young life) but I’m happy where I am today and it’s meant to be.

@lcgusa, if NMSC mailed the letters Tuesday it would be unusual for people to have received them yet, since they were probably sent at the glacial-pace bulk mail rate.

@traveler98 correct, if I remember correctly it took about a week to get me. They used to mail them a week earlier, around the 12th, a couple years back.

My son received a rejection letter today. We were expecting him not to progress to finalist due to a full year C in AP Chem. The letter was postmarked Jan 16.

@ILcollegeDad06 I’m sorry. This was so hard for me. NM Corp is based out of Chicago, so it makes sense you got it so quick.

@ILcollegeDad06
I’m sorry. Even when you’re expecting it, it still stings. Thanks so much for sharing the news with us. It really is helpful.

I’m sorry for this disappointment @ILcollegeDad06.

I’m very sorry, @ILcollegeDad06 . We do appreciate you sharing. Wishing your son much success in his college years. Clearly he is very bright and I’m betting his future is as well.

@ILcollegeDad06 Sorry about your disappointing news–AP Chem is a tough class! Looks like one C this year is a deal breaker, and they don’t consider the rigor of the course.

Seems a little reckless to assume a blanket policy for the year based on one outcome.

I called and confirmed with NM that the SAT confirming score was 208 and in MOST cases a single C didn’t emilinate you. Speculation here but maybe a single C with all As is seen differently than a half As/half Bs with a C. The NM person didn’t clarify the senarios a single C was ok.

It may vary by state as well.

@bama2000 thanks for sharing the info from your call to NMSC. That 208 confirming score is very interesting…in the fall NMSC was super cagey about what the confirming score would be, and students at 210 were sweating it because NMSC wouldn’t say if that was high enough. I wonder if they didn’t decide the confirming score until after they saw the SAT distribution from the finalist applications? Maybe I misunderstood discussions from prior years, but I thought that in previous years applicants knew the confirming score cutoff earlier in the process.

Thank you so much to those who are sharing the news. We have fingers crossed over here, but have already been turned down for big money elsewhere.
(I still can’t help but think these kids are so much better off then i was in the 90s with the 8.75 % federal student loans! Lol!! ) They will be just fine and as stated earlier, the college years are going to be exciting and memorable regardless!
Good luck, and congratulations again to all of these students who have attained NMSF- I am in awe of what they have achieved

Sorry @ILcolegeDad06, that stinks. Thanks for the heads up !
