The Offical Desicion Thread!

Rejected from SCS, MCS (math), and CIT (mechanical)

SAT 740 M 660 V
SAT II 800 IIC 750 Chemistry 560 Writing
GPA 3.6 UW, 3.9 W - my school offers very few weighted math and science credits, and none of my college classes are weighted I don't think

The strongest part of my app (I think) was tons of college math. Here are the math classes I've taken from the local community college and remote campus of OSU:
254 Vector Calc I (A)
255 Vector Calc II (A)
315 Analysis
341 Linear Algebra I (A)
342 Linear Algebra II (A)
346 Number Theory

The ones without grades I haven't finished or taken yet, but I am going to. Other college classes:
211 Physics (A)
212 Physics

I was expecting to be rejected from SCS, wasn't sure about CIT, but I thought I would get in to MCS for math.

Okay I'm a little confused about the priority waitlist.... I know you are expected to attend, but are you OBLIGATED to go 100%?

Accepted SCS, CIT (ECE)
GPA:no idea, several B's, one C
SAT: 720 M, 680 V
SAT II: 710 IIC, 730 Phys, 650 Wr
Essays: crap, I reread them recently and all the cliche stuff almost made me puke, but they were pretty passionate, whatever.
Recs: my cs teacher showed me her rec, and it looked really good
no interview either

just goes to show stats don't mean s***, I took all of those tests once and yeah, don't really do homework unless I like the subject.

Broadway32nd-

I have read somewhere on a CC thread that they can't make you go if you decide not to. You would lose your deposit though.

If you should decide not to go, I would assume there will be others on the Priority List that will be happy to take your spot if you give it up.

accepted into tepper, but i'm not attending.

gpa: 3.97uw 4.97w
sat: 1590 (800m 790 v)

no interview.

GPA: 4.3/5.3
SAT I: V600 M670
SAT II: IC 610 Writ630 Chem540
EC: Pretty average
Anything Special: my alum interview?
PHONE CALL - YES

simplefallout: MCS usually accepts applicants with really, really high stats, did you have some kind of hook? What stood out about you?

Well I was on their PWL until yesterday. Honestly, I was really surprised I even got on the list. Perhaps it was a few of my ECs, but I've always felt like they were pretty typical compared to everyone else's. Also, while I was on the PWL, I wrote a letter to the Admiss. Office (hopefully that helped); if you want, I could post it for you. :)

ahh fudge. I think I deleted it already. Sorry.
but it was basically another essay from my college applications, just jazzed up and personalized.

Accepted to HS&S. lol sad thing is, CMU didn't begin to spark my interest into WAAY after i applied, but it feels like home and i've NEVER been there!!
haha. my stats are horrible!!! I guess they saw through the grades and saw my potential... I dont know how else i could have gotten in
GPA: 2.8 (maybe)/3.0
SAT I: V630 M490
SAT II: WR610 1C470 EB620 LR530
EC: uhm... AVID tutoring for 2 years, small bits of volunteer work, and lots of online communities that influence companies, and Debate club... passionate debater
Anything Special: family situation? my mom died when i was young and my dad is my only parent with severe health problems. i also had a really bad freshman year, but totally rebounded and came back with a 4.0 my senior year!
Essay- My essay was alright. nothing special. I didn't say what i really wanted to, so i did that in my letter to the school when i was PWL
PHONE CALL - uhm, when? i got one a while ago, and i got one when i got in off PWL, but uhm, not since the student ones.

honestly, i'm suprised they gave me a second look, and even more suprised i got in. i don't know. it was so unexpected i'm still in shock, but really glad, because i hear its really competitive and thats what i thrive in. anyway, enough blabbering. Congrats everyone!!!

thats really awesome simplefallout; I really want to go to MCS and was worried about my stats. What were your EC's and leadership positions?

I was rejected to SCS but waitlisted to H&SS (I got accepted through PWL though...) Should have applied to CFA but I got ****ed off over no response in regards to Music Compsition and I didn't go for it x.x Stupid.

SAT's?: Math 570 Verbal 690
SAT II's?: Math I 600 Chemistry 530 Writing 560
GPA: Unweighted: 3.0 Weighted 4.06
Essays: I really busted my ass over writing a good essay. Although I have to admit I could have done better. The one I wrote for PWL was really good though.
EC: Chorus, Performing Arts Production,Musical Theatre, Bowling Team, Treasurer of Japanese Club, VP of FBLA, Treasurer of Creative Writing, Mu Alpha Theta, A Founder (Music Director) of Faith Based Productions, 4 hours of church community service...and the list goes on...I did A LOT in highschool.
Rec: I think they were really good, My Japanese Teacher (who i have a close, close relationship with) wrote one and my AP English teacher wrote the other.

After reading this thread though, I'm embarrased over the academic merit a lot of you have. I did way too much afterschool to excel very much in school.

I didn't do an interview but got a phone call (wasn't there to answer it).

i have a random question. So i was accpeted under a psych major, can i transfer to business..? Blah. Not knowing what you want to do really sucks!

how do you get on priority waiting list?

If you're placed on the waitlist, the decision letter would ask whether or not you want to be placed on the priority and/or regular waiting list.

I've searched the CMU site heavily. There's something called internal transfers and depending on each Department, there's different things you have to do to be considered for an internal transfer from one school to the other.

lene, have you come across anything about tranfering into tepper?

Look at the link, it is right there

yea... sorry... i'm dumb

I've been volunteering at a local retirement center since 8th grade, started a Game Night, Barbeque Tuesdays, and a Senior Citizen Workout Program. Through out high school, I was in SRSEC (my school's community service club) and now I'm the secretary; NHS; Peer Mediation; Library Council; Book Discussion; Tennis; I also help out at my Guidance Office; Math League; and I'm the president of SAVE (Students Against Violence Everywhere). Not very impressive compared to all the other ones I've read about on this forum...

Now I know it's true how you never know what school you'll get into, so I wouldn't worry CMU243 :)
