brillar: Same here. I, er, wasn't expecting so many acceptances, and now I feel like I have too many awesome choices..and yet I've only gotten into four schools >_>

Anyone else seriously concerned about money?

I definitely definitely definitely am, Leslie. REALLY.

Unfortunately I don't have anything back from BMC yet because my dad apparently still hasn't sent in his tax returns.... I don't think he has even filed. I should ask if they'll take 2006 returns- they have his 2007 W-2.

My financial safety was even more expensive than American, which would be about 13,000 dollars in loans a year... maybe not a lot for a pre-med student, but I want to go into education so that's sort of a big deal.

Brillar, if you really wanna know, I did mooch off of Swat's board because it was much less lame than Ford's. I applied ed 1 to hav, and got deferred. Still waiting on that decision but they hate me. I love BMC anyway, so yay!

Oh, and yes, I'm sure many of us are a little concerned about money. Especially because BMC is such a good school (we rock), that they won't offer much, if any, merit money. It's all up to the fed...
But could we keep our financial worries/complaints/comments general, and perhaps not include numbers?
Excited to meet you all!

Er, yups, sorry- We were talking on the AMU board and they're relatively open about the financial aid everyone was recieving (less polite I suppose, but also because a lot of people just can't go because of it), and it sort of slipped over. And I guess the numbers mean less to be because I'm not going there- so it's sort of like hypothetical money.

Yeah, BMC's merit money is very very very very rare- they don't list it on the website but there are stories about people getting some, and the rankings list that they have merit money. I think it's mostly for really really good applicants that didn't get any need-based at all. Hopefully the institutional grants/loans/fed money will pull through for the rest of us.

Oh myyyy....I got in! o.o

It's funny, cause I'm actually away right now for Spring Break and i forgot my username and password, so I called my aunt to ask her what they were and she said: "Oh Bryn Mwar? I got your acceptance in the mail....." and i started to scream on the phone, haha.

Whoa, I did NOT expect to get in at alll...

Congrats to everyone!

congrats! I didn't know they sent any in the mail.

I just painted a Bryn Mawr College easter egg! it's yellow on top and bottom and i used a sharpie to write bryn mawr college. :D

Brillar-- I don't really care myself, but some people can get pretty touchy about that stuff, you know?
NeuroticSenior- You're so adorable!

Love,
Halima

I'm pretty sure they don't give merit aid at all. I know that I'm not getting anything though b/c according to FAFSA I can pay even though my family really can't. I think a lot of us are in the same boat. I LOVE BMC but the chances of my family paying are minimal since I've already gotten a $20,000 scholarship to another school that I'm not in love with but has a solid academic rep. I just hope my parents will give in and pay!

Bryn Mawr itself doesn't give scholarships, but I know from a friend that the alumni association gives out a few merit awards every year to the very top applicants. It's basically the same thing, but this way BMC can claim that they only give need-based financial aid and be telling the truth.

ohmygod. so ive been on a cruise for a week, and i couldnt check. and then i get home and i find out that i DONT REMEMBER MY PASSWORD. im absolutely dying. i reaaaallly have to know......

GOOD LUCK Inspiration!

Bryn Mawr's acceptance video was super cute, but we didn't even realize it was there until today when D started snooping around some more. I must say, someone needs to talk with BM about that. All we saw for the past two days was, "You're in, where's the credit card." LOL

If there are any others of you out there who didn't see the little acceptance video, letter and links for accepted students: Go to the student services section not the applications section. All that neat stuff is there including the campus visit days dates.

My D is very jazzed by Bryn Mawr. I had discouraged her applying because it is need only, but they met 100% of my Ds need and she could actually attend. I was shocked! We will be visiting. We have never been to Pennsylvania and I am a bit nervous about navigating out of the city from the airport, but we will manage.

Are there any current students here receiving FA? If so, have you found the FA to be equal or near the same from year to year (as long as there weren't any big family changes, that is)? The thing with merit is that you can count on it no matter what. As long as the need aid is consistent from year to year we shouldn't have a problem.

Is anyone else going to visit that hasn't seen it yet?

One more question:
Are grad. school admissions strong for Bryn Mawr students?

Bryn Mawr has a strong track record in grad school admissions!

[quote]
85 percent of BMC graduates pursue graduate school within 5 years of graduation. They pursue PhD's as well as degrees in medicine, law and business. Bryn Mawr proudly boasts a nearly 100 percent acceptance rate to law school and an 85 percent acceptance rate to medical school (the national average is in the 40s). Bryn Mawr ranks 1st in the country of its graduates who pursue PhD's in the Humanities and 3rd in all fields.

Bryn Mawr alumnae from recent classes have enrolled in graduate programs at: Brown, Cambridge University, Columbia, Cornell, Georgetown, Harvard, Johns Hopkins, London School of Economics, Massachusetts Institute of Technology, Oxford, Princeton, Stanford University of California, University of Chicago, University of North Carolina, University of Pennsylvania, University of Rochester, Yale.

Some departments publish lists of where recent alumnae are/were going to grad school. I can do some research for you if you tell me which departments you are interested in.

Just to update the numbers quoted above, I think Bryn Mawr dropped to the 4th place in humanities and 8th place in all subjects in terms of PhD productivity. Here are the ranks for each subject individually: PhD Productivity Survey

By the way, could someone post the link to the acceptance video, please? Let me see if I can find the link to last year's video...

Found it! This is last year's acceptance video if anyone's interested: Jenny and her blue pen

Congratulations to all those who were accepted!!!

P.S. Sorry for spamming this thread :)

i got into bmc also!!!

funny story is i didnt think i could get in, so i didnt finish my finanicial aid application (parental tax return, dependent student verification form, and student non-tax filer form). x_x

i mailed it out on friday right after i found out. do you think they'll consider giving me financial aid? and what should i do!?!?

I'm in too!!!! Congrats everyone!! I'm totally shocked, but ecstatic.
