@GreatestThe A grade of B in calculus should not be a dealbreaker. They usually say you need to remain in a close GPA and one B in 60 units with a current 3.9 (or whatever you said) won’t impact it much. But you did pick two very hard schools to get into.

@GreatestThe Well… You just never know… Don’t want to discourage or scare you, but you just never know for sure how they go about their admissions…
And i don’t think other UCs are “inferior” because it all depend on what you do AFTER you graduate, or even during school. Internships/Employments/even Volunteering will definitely get you an edge after you graduate.
BUT! Best of luck to you! :)

@lindyk8 Well if I get a B in Calc II, and A’s in my other classes (which appears to be likely, I have 101% in statistics so far lol), it drops me to 3.88

@matt4200 I know this is what’s scary, I mean aren’t there thousands of people with 3.9+ applying? I keep flip flopping between confidence and anxiety.

@ikm291 no you’re totally right, when I say inferior I purely mean the prestige of the school. I know so many incredibly successful people that went to state universities.The only reason I don’t want to go to one is that the tuition is so expensive, and I might as well go home and pay 1/10th of the price for a similar education and experience.

@GreatestThe

I see. Well, I must admit that I’ll be impressed if you get in to UCLA and/or Berkeley considering you have no backup plans. What you’re doing, in essence, is taking a gamble. Let’s hope you win that gamble.

@GreatestThe I understand how you feel, and I had felt the same way 2 years ago… I had 3.8 GPA and took 6 APs during high school, and I only applied to Berkeley, LA, and Irvine, thinking I might at least get into LA (which, thinking back, was such a stupid guess-timation…) I was outright rejected by the top two, and waitlisted by irvine but i learned my lesson, and applying to 5 UCs this time. I got in one of them at this point, but at least I know i have a school to attend. I feel that prestige is only one of the many factors that can have an impact on your/our future, and we should really focus on planning and preparing for it than… stuck in cc for one more year? possibly

@GreatestThe As @Cayton said, it’s definitely a gamble, but good luck!! I actually applied for the same majors as you have. But I have gotten into UCSB as my fallback!

@ikm291 What’s the purpose of doing more cc? I already have 71 units… bah. That’s scary that you didn’t get accepted. Well, my future will be sealed in 10 days, no point in worrying it’s out of my hands now.

@financewiz haha awesome, what’s your gpa and are you in TAP?

@greatestThe if God forbid, you don’t get in, take the year to work and do something that is like a gap year - go help build huts or something - or travel a bit but with a volunteer-type spirit, or even just volunteer locally with at-risk or neglected kids. Then when you apply again they will be impressed with your community involvement and can-do spirit.

@lindyk8 That’s actually a great idea. The alternative is jumping off a really really tall building. I think I prefer the former.

You’re still in the running and your GPA is strong, so hang in there. :x

@GreatestThe 4.0 and I’m only in Berkeley’s TAP. Just nervous because there are no guarantees especially with the two top public schools in the nation! Let’s just hope we are the lucky few that they deem fit for such highly impacted majors.

@FinanceWiz

I don’t know if Berkeley’s TAP program helps Haas applicants, but a 4.0 sure does. If you wrote a good personal statement and have completed the necessary pre-reqs, you may just be admitted to Haas.

@financewiz I heard 80% of berkeley TAP students get in, so you should be totally fine! What’s your choice if you get into both?

@GreatestThe just sharing some thoughts… True, pointless to keep arguing about trivial stuffs, as the judgement date will come soon

@ikm291 No arguments! I agree with literally everything you said :)

Unless I’m misreading <a href=“Class Profile - Undergraduate Program - Berkeley Haas”>Class Profile - Undergraduate Program - Berkeley Haas;

This seems promising.

@lkm291

lol, “judgment date.”

@GreatestThe Though I love UCLA and the campus life they have over there, Haas will provide me my best opportunities and such. Also, I’ve been in the Bay Area my entire life and love the mentality/environment that only Northern California brings! How about yourself?

@financewiz probably UCLA, but only because of my alternative career path as an artist >_>
