The official Germany thread for the class of 2013

Hey Guys,

I wonder how many Germans are in this forum and how many are applying to college for the class of 2013. Where do you apply? What has your experience been like so far? Did anybody already get accepted?

Germans unite! :-)

I like more of college students unite than of German unite.

How do you know you are German?

... You think of soccer every time you hear "united".

i'm here :) accepted at lse, waiting for harvard... 28 days till teh decision :d

I'm German as well. Applied to 9 schools, pretty much expecting 9 rejections.

I'm from Austria and I applied to 6 colleges. I haven't heard back from any of them yet and just like Silence, I am also expecting rejections.

Do you think it's an advantage applying as Europeans?

I think it is indeed a tiny hook...but likewise Silence and d4rk4ce I dont think being German will get me into college. Im expecting even 16 rejections

Count me in!

I applied to 9 schools in the US, 2 in Canada, and of course, the UCAS 5.

I have absolutely NO IDEA what's going to happen with the US, as I applied to several reach schools, but did not apply for financial aid. It's pretty much a crapshoot for me so I figured I might as well go for it. Even if I get in everywhere (which definitely won't happen haha) I'm not sure I can go due to the cost. I'm in the annoying income bracket that's too high for FA but too low to just shell out $200,000 without a dent in my wallet.

Good luck to everyone!

@bluebubbles Canada is awesome as well. I really want to go back to Canada, but I didn't really think about applying there for some stupid reasons.

In order to keep this thread alive a little longer, Where did you apply?
I applied at Penn, Yale, Harvard(just had to :D ), URichmond, Amherst, Swarthmore, Grinnell, Quinnipiac University and Gettysburg College.

Your safeties are my reaches :-)

I applied to Amherst, Bates, Bennington, Colorado College, Franklin and Marshall, Gettysburg, Goucher, Middlebury, Muhlenberg, Oberlin, Skidmore, Swarthmore, UChicago, Vassar, Wesleyan, Williams.

And oh yes, it definetly have been loads of work.

hi people! Well, I'm a non-german, but I was hoping you could tell me about a german uni I have been looking into lately. Its called Jacobs Uni Bremen...have you guys heard of it? How is it, compared to Tech Munich, Heidelberg etc., and why would people choose the american system of education over the german public unis like heidelberg etc? Thanks!

The American system lets you take some classes outside of your major. The German system doesn't. Also, Jacobs Uni Bremen vs any other German university means classes of 10-20 vs lectures of 200-400. On the other hand, German universities are (close to) free in sharp contrast to American-style universities.

Best of luck guys! We need more International students at Getty! Hope you get in.

@ b@r!um:
I am a non-german. Do you know any other university other than JUB which has English as language of teaching and communication?

hey schofield, what are you intending to study?

@german123
I want to study Engineering man. I am really not wanting to go to US. I want to study in Europe. So help me man.

@theGame:

Unfortunately Im not gonna be a Getty. Rejected me yesturday. 3 Rejections now, another 13 to come...Sigh

^ Commiserations. Must be pretty tough. I couldn't swallow the idea of being wait-listed at relatively unknown Kalamazoo, so I can't possibly fathom what you're going through. Hopefully things will improve, and you'll get a nice FA acceptance from a good college/uni. But never lose hope.

got into one, waiting for 9 more

hey just a question but do any of u have problems with bundesheer?
