@YoungThriver I need that merch Oooh and if you could confirm it tomorrow, please do.
@ImWaisian the only swag I believe PEA gives out at revisit day is a bumper sticker. They usually provide you a coupon for a nice discount at the bookstore- so you can purchase the swag of your choice.
I know how hard you guys have worked during this process and how much you like to celebrate; heck, I was and am still in the thick of it. But one thing I loathe, which have plenty of it is the “stuff”, which in this case you guys call it swag. Of course, some of you already decided about your future school, and it’s awesome to celebrate it by wearing the school sweatshirt.(Cavs, I’m at least your parent age, and can afford a few shirts, but trust me, I would have loved the Choatemom’s offer!) It actually makes me feel sad and concerned, to see some school sending the dollar store quality swag, just to appeal to teenagers, while they are telling me their school is green. That’s all. And, what’s the point of collecting the stuff from other schools, even if this will be the case of rival days, they should be circulated through schools, and recycled. ——-In other hand, I have no problem with M&M. ?
FWIW…the most touching and sentimental gifts were from Emma Willard and Miss Porter’s. These gifts included handmade bracelet from an alum , candy bar from a natural sourced women’s collective, handwritten notes from both older girls and alumnae, and/or keepsake charm. The heartfelt congratulations from older girls and alumnae meant so much to us - and yes these items have been kept. Very classy on the part of the schools. Very nice of the older girls to take time to write person notes.
@SquashPlayer123 Congratulations on your acceptance to PEA.
My daughter plays squash as well. Do they have a squash team? Do you play at National level ?
We loved the gifts from the girls’ schools, too, @golfg8, but the most touching of all was a handwritten, 6 page letter from the head of school at SAS to our child reflecting on her admissions essays!
At Mercersburg my kids got little jars of honey made from beehives on the school campus! I thought it was a nice little gift that was useful and also highlights something unique about the school.
@ImWaisian I bought $74 worth of loot.
Now, I want to go to Exeter more than I want to go to Andover (not because of the loot). I’m probably going to have a similar effect at the end of Andover’s revisit. Oh what am I to do? ?
Peddie revisit day was great - cookies, t-shirts, a small bag of fun swag, but really, the teachers and students were all so friendly, they even had a mini-rally to welcome us! I’m so happy with my decision. Go Falcons!
@YoungThriver You can make a priority matrix for both schools. If this doesn’t work, flip a coin. If the coin lands wrong, flip again. If you are still uncertain… go to Exeter
@YoungThriver if you have specific questions about Exeter- feel free to PM be. Longtime parent and my youngest will graduate in June. She is our 4th to attend. We have a lot of experience as you can imagine over the last 9 years. Good luck on making your decision- you really can’t go wrong. Both offer amazing opportunities.
@YoungThriver I agree that they are both great schools and you really can’t go wrong with either. They’re more alike than they are different. That said, I think you’ll find the schools have different enough vibes that you’ll likely have a good feel for your preference after you’ve revisited both. For now, just enjoy the ride.
I’m planning to send an email asking about how many students there are on the waitlist in my group: (Appyling for) 9th grade males. I really have nothing to lose, I gotta try it!
I was just on vacation, and when I returned home, I had a handwritten letter from Mr. Roach. It was clearly very thoughtful, and only made me more sure that I have made the right decision for myself.
@M0hammad i’m thinking of doing the same, but maybe in a bit, like in another week or two: after all, they’re not gonna move anyone until apr 8/9 at the earliest
As the decision deadline looms closer, I find it more difficult to make a decision. Choate’s been my #1 since the start, but Hotchkiss and SMS were both very high on my list, so GOD I don’t know how to decide. I hope revisits will make Choate v. Hotchkiss a little more clear but SMS is a wildcard and I really liked it. I want to say Choate because I’ve loved it for so long but I’m so worried about regretting my decision.
@CavsFan2003 Whatever school you decide to go to, I’m sure you will be welcomed with open arms and will truly love your experience there. I think I speak for everyone that has come into contact with you here on CC when I say that you are probably one of the funniest most incredible, and definitely most memorable posters in the prep school threads. I am sure any boarding school (whether it be Hotchkiss, Choate, or SMS) would be lucky to have you and I truly believe you can’t go wrong. I’ve heard from many people that on revisit day you will, in most cases, be hit with a strong and immediate feeling and you will just know that that is the school you want to call home for the next 3/4 years.
@CC4life Aw shucks, I really appreciate the words. I can say the same for you—you’re genuinely one of the nicest people I’ve spoken to, always lifting others up! Wherever you go (Loomis, or any other school) will be glad to have you. The world could use your kindness.
@misslilbookworm YES! I don’t know of any other school where the head of school personally writes to all admitted students with his personal reflections on their essays and application to encourage them to join the community at St. Andrew’s School.
@CavsFan2003 We are all rooting for you. Please do keep us posted on your journey!
