Hope the exams went well.
I need help with the f-1 visa process. I dont have a clue about where to begin it from. I stumbled across DS-160 form on the US embassy’s website. Can it be only submitted online or is it possible to fill it manually and then submit it with other docs? What other docs should be sent to the embassy prior to the interview (the site includes only a brief list)?
If possible, could u please brief out the visa application procedure.
Thanks.

P.S: How are SAT and TOEFL scores to be reported to the embassy? Will a printed copy of my online report be enough or will they have to be sent electronically?

pay sevis fee online they’ll give you an online receipt print it

submit ds 160 online print its receipt page too(for this you’ll require a phto you can find about photo requirements on the embassy’s website)

go to your nearest american express and submit a copy of your i20, your passport and your sevis and ds160 receipts(take a 2x2 photograph with you). you’ll have to pay the visa application fee there its 140$ but they only take Pk Rs and if your papers are complete they’ll give you an interview date

google documents to take along on a f1 visa interview just read through the first few results and you’ll get a pretty good idea of what to take along. After the interview the american express ppl will call you when your visa is rdy…Good luck

Salaam Maheen, good to see you here! Please be quick with the visa process since the US Embassy is known to be very slow when it comes to Pakistani nationals. I don’t have information about the visa application process, BUT I could refer you to a couple of Pakistanis there, if you feel the need.

As for the SAT and TOEFL scores, it would be stupidity on the US Embassy’s part if they demand the SAT and TOEFL scores to be sent directly from College Board and ETS respectively. The reason being, SAT scores take atleast two weeks to deliver, and TOEFL scores take generally minimum a month (atleast that’s the time it took for mine to reach 5 Candian universities). A more reasonable approach (not that I expect them to be reasonable) would be to have your SAT and TOEFL copies certified by your school, etc and then submit those. I would suggest you give the US Embassy a call.

https://www.fmjfee.com/i901fee/ this is where you pay the sevis fee.It should be written on the letter which came with your i20 form. On the site you have to submit the i901 form. Print a copy of your online sat score report, i know it says this is not an official copy but the embassy people accept it…

thanks. My full name comprises of my first name M, middle name S and surname S. My Sevis form mentions each of the three names distinctly but my passport states my full name under two headings only i.e given name (first and middle) and surname. I talked to Bryn Mawr office abt this and they assured me that it is ok and there wont be any problem as my full name appears on both the docs. is this ok then?

Personally, I’ve stopped writing my middle name in the middle name field, rather combining it with my first name as it is in my passport. This avoids all confusion.

Also, I would suggest that you go to a professional photographer to get a photograph taken especially for the American visa form - not only does the visa require a specific background and size, in inches, there are some quality qualifications that your picture must pass when uploaded online. If you go to a good photographer (Hong Kong and Dossani come to mind, if you’re in Karachi) they should already be aware of these requirements. Also, your photo should not be photoshopped (most photographers 'shop pictures a bit unless you specifically tell them not to).

Maheen, you are just being paranoid now There would be absolutely no problem with your name because it is read as First Name Middle Name Last Name. The full name would be the same =)

I am gathering financial docs for my visa interview. My family has been heavily involved in business since 4-5 decades. My parents own several properties abroad (mostly in Dubai). Beside tax returns, bank statement and a letter from bank confirming a strong business position, what else should i carry to the embassy? I read somewhere on google that titles or deeds of properties should not be brought to the embassy. We received rent from only one of our foreign properties. How could i document it? What about the other properties?
What should be the time span of bank statement?

I just got back my passport from the American Express office. My interveiw is scheduled for next week. I did nt get any interview appointment letter. I asked the lady there abt it n she said dt the letter comes for only immigrant visas. I ready it somewhere on google that the letter should be brought to the embassy. When i submitted my docs there, she asked for my original i-20 not its photocopy though i had it with me then. As fas as i know, the original is to be carried to the embassy n a photocopy is to be submitted at the American Express office. Where does this lead me?

first of all you need to chill and not go all hysterical on this thread, its simple enough just take the following documents to the interview
1.Original I-20 form
2.Sevis fee receipt
3.DS160 receipt
4.Passport
5.The piece of paper the american express ppl gave you when you submitted your documents there.
6.Your Sat score report
7.Your high school transcripts
8.Your O and A Level results(dont even think about asking “I will get my A levels result in august what should i do?”
9.Parents bank statement for past 3 years.
10.Tax returns for 3 years.
11.Property deeds(you do have to prove that you have significant financial and social ties in Pakistan so you need to take these along)

If you have received any kind of scholarship the interview will go very smoothly for you. my interviewer took one look at my i-20 where they state the scholarships and stuff and she was like wow a scholarship you should be so proud of yourself etc etc and was like ok your application has been approved so if you do then count yourself lucky…

I mentioned before that i don’t have my original i-20. When i went to that american express centre, the lady took the original even though i had the copy. I told her that as far as i know, a copy is to be given but she was like u have to give me the original.

when you turn up at the american embassy for your interview at the reception they’ll return all the documents they took frm you in the first place and then you’ll have your interview so you see it wont be a problem after all, what you should be worried about right now are the interview questions :P
