@shehrazsyed which colg r you from ??

Hey guys! Just found this thread.

I didn’t do O-levels, but I did my freshman and sophomore years in a high school in California. I got like a 3.5 GPA (unweighted) average those two years. Then I moved to Karachi for my A-levels! Right now I just started my A2.

Anyways, a bit about me:
-Live in Karachi
-I’m a US Citizen
-Doing A levels right now.
-SAT I: 2020 (last January) I’m going to retake it in October, aiming for a 2200+
-SAT II: Taking MathII, Chemistry, and Physics in November. Expecting around 750 for all 3.
-AS Result: 5 As.

I’m planning on majoring in Computer Science.

However, my ECs are really weak…:
-Volunteered at The Citizens Foundation last summer where I taught primary school children from poor parts of the city at TCF schools.
-Volunteered at library computer center to help people learn how to operate computers (40 hours)
-Spend a lot of my free time learning how to program.
-Self-taught myself C, C++, Python, HTML/CSS, and PHP
-Had a paid internship at a software development firm in Karachi for two months last summer.
-Aiming to create a Computers/Computer Programming Society at my school this year.

I’m planning on applying to: Carnegie Mellon, MIT, Caltech, Stanford, UC Berkeley, UCLA, UCSD, USC.
My dream schools are the first 6 on that list.

Do you guys think I could get into any of them, if I can manage to write a good personal statements and get some great teacher recommendations?

Well, being a US citizen, you certainly have a better chance than the rest of us.

you should easily get into carnegie mellon, not sure about the rest but i guess you could try. Having a 3.5 doesnt really help but tanding out on the whole can work. Good luck! i might even see you at carnegie mellon :stuck_out_tongue: ( if i dont get into brown ED :frowning: )

and the ucs should be fairly easier for you aswell since you are a us citizen, usc is good too

I was sort of wishing my 5As would cover up my horrible GPA T_T.
But if I really can get into Carnegie Mellon, I’d be so happy!

Guys, if anyone wants help feel free to contact me. I’ll be attending UCLA Class of 2015 this fall Insha’Allah.

Pakistan has its own forum now!

Congratz everyone Pakistan has its own sub-forum
And Eid Mubarak to everyone aswell!!!

Mazorak, You did not say what your math scores were on the SAT. I also think the SAT subject tests will play a major role in how Admissions will see you. Your high school GPA is similar to my son’s. He will be applying to the college class of 2017. He is now starting his hs junior year. By the way, I have advised my son to add a couple of easy match/ safety schools to his list. You might want to do the same.

@Mazorak
where are you doing your a-levels from?

I’m from GCU.

@Maryam247
City PAF Chapter. Why?

just asking

Just as the other day i was registering for SAT, i couldn’t find any seats available for centre’s in islamabad for october 1st date. What’s with that? Do i have no choice but to register for the next november date?

plus when i was registering College board was asking details about my application. I filled most of the part about ethnicity, preferences and ECS but i was confused about the part about the APs and subjects i was studying. I left it blank because obviously i’m an A level student. Is it the same? And should i fill it?
