The Official PSAT For Saturday October 21, 2006

Stycher or something? Yeah, I got both of those.

I put that too. About his name - who cares what it is? Who reads biographies anyways :P

yup and what the second one had and the first one didn't was about how he influenced writers after him was a bad thing...

Question on the math: for the grid-in one about finding the average chairs, I got 52.5, but then I thought that since they were talking about chairs, it needed to be a whole number. So I ended up erasing 52.5 and put 52. is that wrong? ;_;

09xoxo- yes.

Laina, yes, that's wrong. They wanted mean, or average, which need not be a whole number.

Laina, I put 52.5 but then thinking about it afterwards I don't know if we should've put an integer. But since it's an average, it's okay to have half a chair... right?

yes, 52.5 is correct

^ Yes, that's right.

I think the rate is more abstract a quantity, so 52.5 is applicable.

I know this isn't directly related, but how do you guys learn vocab for PSAT/SAT? It's my weakest section, and I guess I could just sit around and memorize, but I'm not sure if that would even help..

woa, i'm getting the stycher ones right, it seems, and i thought that was the hardest passage....

for the use of "swift yet peaceful" in the star passage, what was the contrast? I put the contrasting effect of space and the effect of the earth's atmosphere on light

snowia...i just memorized the sparknotes 1000 list. after doing that, the sentence completion came pretty naturally to me. However, just reading more in general is probably a more effective way of increasing your verbal overall, but i'm too lazy =/

that DOES help.

yeah i put that too (cory)

cory - Yeah, I think you're right. Contrast between intrastellar space air and the earth's atmosphere? That's what I put.

for the one that said: ...the list invited [somebody] and I...
I marked that I as the incorrect because it should be me.. anyone concur?

Is the one about the greatest date that sunday can be the 21st day?

Is the one about "the peaceful ride of the light or something" to contrast between science and myth or something like that?

"somebody and me" - I concur.

Greatest date: 21st

"the peaceful ride of the light or something" - no, see my previous post.

yes, 21st was the answer

uh....not sure about the peaceful light though, look at my previous comment, i think that's the right answer

AznPwyd-

Yes, it should be "me".
21st is correct.
The contrast is the effect of interstellar space vs effect of lower atmosphere on starlight.

yup its 'me'

for the use of "swift yet peaceful" in the star passage, what was the contrast? I put the contrasting effect of space and the effect of the earth's atmosphere on light

put that too =D
