haha that's pretty much the extent of it. Sooooo crappy.

honestly...

YOU Guys need to give a rating of EVERY EC, and then give an overall rating. if u start doing that, it will set precedent and people will start rating every one of your individual ECs.

that way, we'll know what EC's are so worthless that we can drop them, or what ECs we need to work on.

I have a new game! The official RATE THIS THREAD thread. 1 for sort of ridiculous, 10 for absolutely ridiculously nerdy.

I'd give it an 8 or a 9. You all could get it up to a 10 if this thread gets past 3 pages.

lol are your ec's that horrible.

haha, southeasttitan's post cracks me up...

Hey, three pages! Somebody put this rated-10 thread on their resume!

Ooh. This seems like fun. Rate me, please.
I'm a female sophomore at a reasonably competitive public school.

Clubs:
Student Council - Been extremely involved since my entrance into the school. Involves working with peers to plan events for grade and school, fundraising, community service, etc... I don't have an officer position yet, but I'm hoping to have one for junior and senior years.

Students and Teachers Opposing Prejudice - Community service, leadership, organizing events and such. We do all of the things that the Interact club at my school doesn't, and the Interact club doesn't do one bit of community service like it's supposed to. I'm hoping to have a leadership position by next year.

Academic Team - Captain. Competes regionally, hoping to make state at some point.

Tutoring Club - Tutoring middle school students in all subjects.

Drama Club - Not too many huge roles, but I do a lot of work backstage and am this year's stage manager.

School Newspaper - Just a writer; I can't apply for an editorial position until junior year.

School Literary Magazine -Again, can't apply for leadership until junior year. Right now, just a writer.

Sports

Badmitton, Bowling, Tennis.

Research

I may be dropping this, but I'm currently in a class that involves a three-year science research independent study at a major lab with a mentor. The whole course is very time consuming, but if I do drop, I'd hope to continue the research on my own.

I'm hoping for an internship at an Alzheimer's research center.

Work Experience

In addition to the tutoring club at my school, I'm a paid tutor. I teach a religion class at my church, and I do some reception/filing work at a neurosurgeon's office.

Summers

I've been attending the Johns Hopkins CTY program (with which, I also take online courses - Writing courses for the past two years, and I'm going to self-study two AP's with them next year.) for the past two summers.

This year, I'll be going to Europe with the People To People Student Ambassador program for three weeks.

Possibly this summer (in addition to P2P) and hopefully next summer, I'll be trying for admission into the Harvard SSP.

Volunteer Work
I volunteer at my local hospital and I have been for the past two years. I have about 100 hours thus far.
I'm involved in my church (Youth group, teaching religion classes, altar serving).
I volunteer with my school at local soup kitchens and homeless shelters, and conduct food/clothing/toy drives, etc...

Extras
I write a column for my local newspaper. It's small and it's about school, but it's published.
I'm working on a novel that I'm hoping to have finished and possibly published by my senior year.
(I'm really into writing. I've won local awards and went to states for Reflections in creative writing. I'm entering Scholastic this year.)
I'm hoping to start up a pre-med society at my school.
I've been playing the piano for roughly ten years, and I've been to NYSSMA five times.

**My biggest worry is that I'm spreading myself too thin. If I am, tell me, please. I have time to stop it before college rolls around. I'm trying to focus mostly on writing and science based EC's, but I'd also like to be well-rounded.

And then there's another worry that I'm doing too little. Honestly, this is really the top of what my school offers. The EC's get a little better when you reach junior and senior years, but not much. We have no debate team, no mock trial team, etc...
I've tried to start up the above, but there are no teachers who wish to be advisors, so I'm pretty much stuck. **

Freshman at an insanely competitive Private All Girls School in NYC.

12) City Council Intern - three years so far.
13) Hospital Volunteer - 5 hours a week.
14) Peer Tutoring - Lower schooler twice a week during free periods.
