The Official Turkish Thread

the reason why the turkish universities aren't considered as one of the best universities is basicly lacking money. most of the universities above(bogazici-middle east) are the public schools and the turkish government doesnt help and support them at all. as a result, even though the students accepted by BOGAZICI-MIDDLE EAST are very clever or the education quality of those universities is as well as IVY'S, they dont have the money to make research and create new things. i believe that they know more than IVY students but just on paper.

hey, cherrybrandy! i assume you are still in turkey? if you need any help or advice, just feel free to ask.

oheyyy, I was always wondering if there will alsa be a Turkish thread too; here it is.
I
m Turkish too!
I
m Turkish too!

btw for those of you asking for good Turkish colleges, Bophorus, Middle East Technical, and Istanbul Technical Univerisites would be the leading ones, however, I wouldnt recommend those schools for study abroad folks! I even know one people who went to Turkey for study abroad and had to drop all classes, rather than studing she prefered to tour Turkey. Those school may going to be exeptionally hard. prefer privave ones, Sabanci, Ko

FURKANK and Alone: Many thanks. I guess I will be checking these universities up for a study abroad program.

Hi,
Can you post your acceptances and rejections and also where you are going to attend?

hi furkan, yeah I am. and thnks :)

@the game - you’re welcome :)

But, I am going to warn you(as cmelan did)…Education is pretty-monstrously-incredibly hard…:slight_smile: On the other hand, if you can complete one academic year in Turkey, nothing can stop you in the world :)

@cmelan

My friend, where do you reside? Are you going to apply to colleges?you already are a college student? or whatever? :)

@eagle017

I didnt apply anywhere because I didn’t take the toefl yet. here are my stats, just to make the thread more serious =)

sat reasoning : math 750 verbal 400 writing 400(6 months ago)(now, i am aiming for 600)

subject test : math2c 760

@cherrybrandy

what are you going to do? what’s your plan? why CC? :)

well I’m going to attend UIUC in fall 2009 and will major in computer science. what about you?

I will likely apply to UC’s for winter '10. ( I am addicted to the Ocean :slight_smile: I like parties going on there though :)

I will also major in CS. :)

just be aware, UC’s tend to accept very few internationals. Berkeley seems to have a good EECS department but I applied there too and got rejected :stuck_out_tongue: however I’m very fine with UIUC and its splendid Siebel Center :slight_smile: I recommend you to apply CMU, UIUC, UMich in addition to UC’s because they are very famous in CS. Also you can apply to MIT and Stanford but I don’t know if you will get incredibly high SAT scores (I mean, CR 700+) and already have some olympiad success.

Indeed, seems like UC’s DON’T tend to accept any int. students(Especially Berkeley and Ucla) :slight_smile: I will apply to all of them. I hope UCSB or UCI can accept me because my math scores are way better than the other admitted students. But I definitely know there is still no guarantee :slight_smile: If I couldn’t get accepted to any UC, I would probably stay in NY because bunch of colleges offered me huqe scholarships. I can enjoy this oppurtunity.

Michigan, Pennysylvania and even Boston are unbearably frigid for me. Illinois is cold too. :slight_smile: I currently live in NY-Manhattan. Too cold here.(AlmostLikeNorth) I don’t know whether the weather is warm or not in Ankara but the temperature here is around(40F-50F)now.

Stanford would be impossible to reach:)…I don’t have any olympiad success. CR 700? I never heard of it :P

Btw, Congratulations:) UIUC is an enormous achievement :)

Thanks :slight_smile: Weather is fine here. And I think you should not think too much about weather, I heard lot’s of things about coldness of Champaign in winter but I don’t care about it.

You’re right. I can try… :slight_smile: I will apply to Boston and Illinois but Michigan is almost Canada :)

Haha, Ann Arbor is a nice town though.
