The Official UCB Fall of 2014 Decisions Thread

@ucastell‌

I applied to Berkeley as well so I’m awaiting their decision as well. Just seven days left! Interesting that Berkeley is always the last UC to release their decisions…

@bluebottle‌ I swear to god I’ve been doing the same thing… what have we become

@Loyshi‌ @ocnative‌ @music1990‌ being a Berkeley alumnus in the very late '70s, it was still very political and that’s what made it great. There was an electrical charge, an energy on the campus that more than made up for the slightly decentralized location. The thing that really put Berkeley on the global map were the riots in the 1960s, with student Mario Salvo as spokesperson, standing atop cars, and then following with People’s Park, etc. These riots were shown worldwide and Berkeley became known as the #1 university in terms of anti-war anti-Vietnam demonstrations (and I mean that in a good way). Berkeley is also ground zero for the disabilities movement, with the first Center for Independent Living. To not put too big an emphasis on it, Berkeley is responsible for the start of what we see today in terms of ramps and access for people with disabilities. Before that there was nothing anywhere, and people with disabilities were essentially shoved in closets. And don’t forget Peet’s started in a little shop off of Shattuck! :))

Trust me @anavera if you get into Berkeley - and you will - you won’t have to see your cousin at all. BTW, you want her to shut up about the others just bring up her rejection to her #1 choice UCLA every time she brings it up (esp in public). She’ll stop after a couple of those pies in the face.

@Cayton

Best for last :wink:

@ocnative‌

haha, sure. :)

By the way, guys, UCLA is releasing decisions for transfers today. You can watch us suffer from the worst anxiety you’ve ever seen as decisions will be released in several hours.

@lindyk8‌ Thanks. We’ll see how it goes. x.x

@Cayton I’ve seen you chance many people and I appreciate your straightforwardness! Mind giving it a go? :)

CCC transfer
Peace and Conflict Studies (Interdisciplinary major)
3.95 transferrable GPA
UCB recommends taking “as many semesters of foreign language as possible before transfer.” By graduation from UCB, I need to complete 4 total, but I’m only in my third now. Everything else completed/will be completed by spring.
Completed Orange Coast College’s honors program with 16 honors units
Lots of EC’s: News editor/social media director of campus newspaper, paid writing tutor in campus success center, director of academic and curricular affairs for Honors Student Council, founder/president of my anti-domestic violence club on campus, community/volunteer work with anti-domestic violence non-profit, development intern for Hands for Africa (another non-profit focused on fundraising for a small country in Africa), 5 academic honors societies (including Phi Theta Kappa)…I think that’s it. It feels strange broadcasting my stats on here for the world to see, but I guess that’s partly what it’s here for! Thanks!!!

@conheo yeah I got that April 15th, hope it’s a good sign!

@smashley93: You are a high match or have a high admission rate. Your major is not as impacted in comparison to Psychology, and Berkeley normally accepts 3.9+, assuming you had a good personal statement as your ECs are great.

@conheoo @helloitstimtim I received that as well! But did you see the note at the bottom that said it was no indicator of admission? :((

@imaplealot Thanks!

@smashley93 mine did not have that, I have checked at least three times, and there was no phrase saying it’s not related to admission! The letter:
Dear UC Berkeley Transfer Student,

The Cal Alumni Association invites you to apply for The Leadership Award.

Funded through the generosity of Cal alumni and supporters, The Leadership Award is a one-year, merit-based scholarship providing incoming Cal transfer students $2,000 as recognition of their past leadership and future potential. It is one of the most prestigious scholarship programs at UC Berkeley.

Apply Now

Application Deadline: Wednesday, April 30 @ 5:00 p.m. PST

*Please ensure you submit the application for TRANSFER students.

Visit the application link for full application and eligibility requirements. Apply early to guarantee receipt of your application.

@smashley93 but then of course, in reality it’s not an admissions offer…so only hoping it’s a good sign

@smashley93‌

http://admissions.berkeley.edu/sites/default/files/docs/Transfer_Flier.pdf

According to this^, your major is in a department that had a 30.1% admit rate last year. Kind of low, but your GPA is great and your ECs are excellent, especially your work in preventing domestic violence(WHat better way to show your commitment to studying the nature of peace and conflict?). Not only is it a great EC, but it’s a genuinely good thing you’re doing for the world. I’m certain Berkeley will see that in your application and admit you.

I assume you’ve completed the pre-reqs for that major. Have you?

@Cayton Yes, all pre-reqs complete as of last semester. Just finishing up very last IGETC classes. I’ve seen that page, and while although 30% is not incredibly encouraging, the only other department that has a higher rate of admission is arts and humanities, correct? Aside from random majors here and there that have slightly higher rates. Am I right?

@helloitstimtim I apologize!! I received an alumni scholarship email from UCLA! Decisions are today so I got UCLA on the brain! However, that email does seem promising! Did you describe exceptional leadership in your essays?

Did anyone else get this email from Cal??? I’m slightly concerned now.

@smashley93 there was no leadership mentioned in my essay, but I have gotten into both Cal and UCLA when I applied as a freshman 2 years ago…hoping it will be the same and even better this time!!

@helloitstimtim Can I ask what your major/stats are? :)
