do you guys think being in a Berkeley tap program will make your admission chances a lot stronger?

@kio3063 Did you speak with them or is that speculation?

@smashley93 It is always 5pm according to the past years.

yes ice is right. it is always 5pm.

Ok, thanks! Let’s hope the server doesn’t crash like UCLA and UCSD!

only four more days! cant wait to know my fate lol. hopefully we are Berkeley bound!

Didn’t UCLA’s only crash for like 5 minutes, @smashley93? lol

@lindyk8 well for me at least, UCLAs site was down for about half an hour

@lindyk8 To be honest, I was at work, so I didn’t have to deal with UCLA’s crash; I just saw all the complaints after the fact. UCSD on the other hand was a nightmare. I couldn’t get on for hours. 8-|

I just realized I misreported a D+TO UCLA and called it a C. This was from Fall of 2008. That semester I also got an F and accurately reported that. I let UCLA know ahead of time so they aren’t surprised when they get my transcripts. Since that semester, I didn’t go to school until 2012 and I’ve completed all of my coursework since then with a 4.0. The class doesn’t satisfy any requirements and I don’t need it. Should I be concerned? Has anybody ever heard of something like this happening?

@nicholas11
I’m part of Berkeley’s TAP program. Considering that I got in, I DEFINITELY agree that it help made my admission stronger with Berkeley’s counselor advising on your PS and guiding you throughout the stressful process.

@chaoscuber Hey I’m applying for CS(L&S)! Are you? sooo anxious…

@toepump If CS (L&S) is the BA variety then I am applying for that one too. Be aware though, I believe within a semester you would have to declare your major. To do so you will need to have to complete Comp Sci 61A-C requirements I believe (not sure though). I talked with a rep, and he said that we wouldn’t have to worry about getting the class we would require since during Summer we would have the opportunity to have priority registration. All this information is kinda iffy though, but giving you a heads up.

“Students in L&S are expected to declare a major before the first semester of their junior year (for transfer students, before the beginning of the second semester at Berkeley). Those who do not declare by that time will be subject to a registration block, so it is imperative to declare on time. There are other good reasons to declare as soon as you are ready. As a declared student, you will be given higher priority to enroll in courses in your major department, and you will have greater access to departmental advising and other departmental resources.”

At the last stretch waiting for admissions and finishing up semester/quarter at CC are any of you guys getting burnt out a little? With that in mind, does UC Berkeley require that your last semester/quarter maintain a 3.0 gpa average or just 2.0 like majority of other UCs? It’s not difficult to maintain 3.0 gpa, but with only 2.0 gpa requirement it means I can possibly skip taking certain finals.

@chaosscruber @toepump I’m apply to CS(L&S) too. I’m pretty nervous. It’s strange to me how vastly different the acceptance rates are even within L&S. Oh well, 4 days.

@jonjon03 Yeah I’m aware of that requirement…It is absolutely iffy haha

My CC’s programming courses actually allow me to complete the CompSci61b requirement via a 1-unit self-paced course at Berkeley which I would take during the fall along with 61c and ENGR(##).
I should be able to finish the rest during the summer (61a and CompSci70 i think)

Regardless, this “first semester declaration” shenanigan is definitely something that I will be thinking about…
Forces me to seriously consider my acceptance into UCSD simply because they admitted me directly into the major no strings attached.

Also, I feel you on being burnt out haha
Unfortunately, I couldn’t confidently say whether or not Berkeley requires a 2.00 or 3.00 for the last CC semester/quarter GPA. But you are right, usually it is a mere 2.00!

@jonjon03 @HelloPersonC

Just out of curiosity…what are your GPA’s? And what pre-reqs were you both able to complete?

@toepump I’m an intercampus transfer so there aren’t any exact correlations between courses but I’ve taken all the math and Intro cs, data structures, and discrete math. So, ideally the only one missing is 61C. My GPA is ~3.86.

@toepump My GPA is not competitive I believe, it is only 3.5 gpa. That said, all of the required classes listed on assist I have completed with As. Comp Sci 61A and 61C is not articulated with my school, but I am currently about to partially complete Comp Sci 61B. Other things that might get me in is that the last two years I only had straight As, and I believe my personal statement is well written. Since I’ve gotten into nearly all the UCs I’ve applied to (Davis, San Diego, LA, Irvine) I still have hope that I might be able to make it into Berkeley. How’s your stats like?

@jonjon3 Damn you got in to LA for CS? that’s impressive. last year they accepted like 4 ppl total. I applied there too but had like half the pre-reqs missing and got rejected.

@HelloPersonC Yea honestly I don’t know how that happened, I was missing their requirement for CHEM 20A and COM SCI M51A (not required, but recommended). I’m attributing that getting straight As for the rest of the requirement (except for one english requirement) helped me a lot and/or my personal statement was better than I thought.

Whats the difference between CS(L&S) and EECS?
