The Official UCB Fall of 2014 Decisions Thread

@Anxiety94‌

Well I would like to compose music for a few different purposes, like film and television, and performing artists. But college courses mostly focus on classical music, which is fine because I like learning about it, but not really the type of songwriter I would like to be. But I’m mostly going to college just to learn for the fun of it, not for like job training or anything like that.

What’s your major and what type of career are you hoping for?

@Bigcityofdreams‌

Lol…there’s no escape to this mad wait.

@CompSciUCTrnsfr

Haha. I was referring to South Park. Ucb admissions officers are probably reading this thread and laughing at our anxiety and insecurity.

In the real, I wish they’d send out admissions all on one day a little in March so we’d have more time to visit campuses and see where we wanna go. Or at least before spring break. But they should do it on a random day so, we wouldn’t freak like this.

I fancy myself some music composition during my free time as well (making music is my other secret passion, I enjoy making either the electronic/indie/contemporary styles, or the ambient, classical kind depending on my mood). As far as my academic major, I’m applying to Cal in Media Studies, which is more commonly known as Communications; career wise, I’m open to many different doors, should an enticing opportunity approach me!

@ocnative‌
Hello fellow OC buddy. The only escape is sleep (and frankly death, but that has no utility here), and it works effectively if you have nothing to do for the next… 3-4 days?

@Anxiety94

Oh awesome I make a lot of electronic music. What software do you use?

Media Studies sounds like a cool major. Do you see yourself working in film and television or something? Or does Media Studies focus on something else…

PS: I’ve been sleeping as much as possible! I slept most of the day today lol

@Bigcityofdreams
They are definitely getting a kick out of this, because it really is a hysterical situation.

@music1990
The DAW program that I use is FL Studio, because I don’t have a mac to access Abelton. It works just as great as any others with the correct plugins/packages I suppose :). If you’ve got any of your stuff online, I would love to hear it by the way! Media Studies doesn’t necessarily have to involve entertainment/urban media, as it’s also applicable to things like public relations or marketing for different businesses and things of that nature. Although in regards to having a chance to be on TV… hell I would take that opportunity in a heartbeat!

@Anxiety94‌

Hey! Yeah I just slept for the most of the remainder of the day after I got off work. Haha it sure does kill time! Though these next few days are going to feel slow as hell :stuck_out_tongue:

Oh yeah FL is good I’ve used it before. But yeah you can make good music with any program really.

It sounds like you could do a lot of things with that degree. I asked about entertainment because if I get into Cal, it would be cool to collaborate with people who are working with media. How selective is your major do you know?

@music1990
Oh I see! God I would love to network with all of the fantastic people here if I get accepted. According to the 2013 admission rates, there was a 31% transfer acceptance rate into interdisciplinary studies in L&S… It’s certainly less stringent than the other sections, but Communications/Media Studies in general seems to be an incredibly sought after major in California, which is why UCLA was so selective (it’s also capped at Berkeley). If I don’t get into Cal though, I’ll most likely go with Davis, because I would REALLY love to travel up to NorCal.

I know that this question has been discussed numerous times, but because I’m so anxious for Friday I have to ask again…
I received the UCLA alumni scholarship email (telling me when the deadline to submit application is, etc.) prior to my acceptance, but I did not receive the Cal one… Please tell me it really does not indicate anything about acceptance!

@Anxiety94‌

31% is pretty good! I hope you get in. Did you get into UCLA? And yeah one awesome thing about getting into Cal would be to get to meet some of the smartest people in our fields.

@Yukaris‌

It means nothing. If you checked the box that asked if you were interested in leadership based scholarships, you got the email. If not, you didn’t. Don’t stress.

@Yukaris
There was a lot of debate over this earlier, but I believe it was debunked when someone emailed Cal admissions about it. Apparently receiving the alumni scholarship email does -not- correlate with your acceptance.

@music1990
Nope… everything but UCLA! Just waiting on Cal now :slight_smile: I’m really hoping that my personal statements pull through for me. My current gpa as of Fall is only a 3.64 :confused:

@music1990 @Anxiety94
Thank you both for the reassurance!
I applied under psych major, and because it is so impacted I’ve been getting more stressful each day…

@Yukaris
Did you get into UCLA psychology? Their department there is already pretty phenomenal! I used to be a psychology major myself, so I did all of my research, haha. Like psychology, communications/media studies is also one of the most impacted majors, so I feel your stress.

@Anxiety94‌
I got into 5 UCs so far under psychology, including UCLA. But Cal is too unpredictable…

I was ruling out UC Berkeley because I thought I’d have to retake a math class, but just realized they have a completion class (Math 49). I applied for Econ, I have all A’s but a C in Calc 2, but Calc 3 and Linear Algebra in progress with As. Not sure of my chances, and I haven’t heard from UCLA.

I like it better when the board goes a little crazy. Let’s speculate guys

@Yukaris
I hear ya! It’s almost as if they are scavenging not only for academics, but for a very particular mindset in their applicants. I’m sure it’s a holistic review for very good reasons… it’s most likely why the university has such high prestige.

@CSB111
That’s odd that you haven’t heard from UCLA yet… they sent their decisions out a while ago. You should go to their admission website and login with your UC ID to see if they accepted you, unless it’s not posted there either.

@onehandedred‌

Maybe Berkeley might push back the release date one week to May 2nd! :O

End crazy speculation.
