The Official UCB Fall of 2014 Decisions Thread

@Cayton‌

K-Town checkinggg in.

But seriously, Don’t say that. I would die if I had to wait an extra week.

@CSB111‌

LOL are you waiting for a letter in the mail, the old fashion way…that would be hilarious to me

@CSB111‌ @Anxiety94‌
I think UCLA only released part of the decisions on Friday, the rest are coming end of April. Or so I’ve heard.
Also someone said to me before that Calc 2 is actually harder than Calc 3, so I think it’s understandable to have not done as well as the others.

@music1990‌

Yeah, I probably shouldn’t. Things have a way of happening if I say they will or may. :stuck_out_tongue: I’ll go ahead and stop doing that now. :D

@music1990 haha no but they haven’t released all their decisions. I think they are looking at my alternate major through TAP, or I got rejected. I don’t know.

@Yukaris It was mostly an issue with the professor (he missed so much class, hadn’t taught the class in years, and some other things), but I’ll admit I was screwing around a lot that semester too lol.

@Cayton‌
Thought you were for real there for a sec… :open_mouth:

@Cayton
Burn sage around your computer and dispel the bad vibes that you have just put into the cosmos for all of us. Shame :open_mouth:

@Cayton‌

Ok good mr. “I already got into my dream school”

@CSB111‌

Oh ok. Well good luck! You probably are in pretty good shape with TAP and mostly all As.

@Yukaris‌

I wasn’t…or was I? ;)

@Anxiety94‌

lol, sure. :D

@music1990‌

Hey man, I applied to Berkeley too. I await their decision this Friday with you guys, even though I’ve filed my SIR with UCLA already. :)

Just 3 days to go!

I’m just doing this for bragging rights. I don’t think UCB will offer more money than UCLA for me.

@Cayton‌

LOL so essentially getting into Berkeley means nothing to you, except something cool you could tell your friends.
Well, I hope you get in anyway! And then if I get waitlisted, I get your spot once you decline.

@music1990‌

Well, yeah, but in case UCLA rejected me, I’d have another school considering me for admission. Applying back in November, I didn’t know for certain that UCLA would accept me, so I applied to Berkeley and the other UCs to expand my options, naturally.

And thanks! I know you’ll get in, man. You deserve it.

@Cayton‌

Oh I totally get why you applied to more than UCLA. I would have applied to UCLA myself if the music department admitted students based on grades. Unfortunately they only care about auditions, and I already know there are far better piano players than me.

And thanks for that. I wish I was that confident, but coming from you that means a lot. So did you ever talk to UCLA about the possibility of getting 2 Cs? I really think you’re going to be fine. But it’s a shame how ambiguous they are about the terms of your contract.

@music1990‌

I emailed UCLA a couple of days ago and they have yet to get back to me, but they should respond by this Friday, if not earlier. I suspect that they’ll be very vague because others have asked them these kinds of questions and they tend avoid giving definite responses or near-definite responses.

UCLA’s contract should be more explicit, like Cal’s.

@Cayton‌

Yeah I know, I don’t understand why they wouldn’t be more clear. But that kind of makes me think that you would have to really mess up for them to take action. Are you expecting 2 Cs and 2 Bs, or is that worst case scenario? Unless you are tired of talking about, in which case I totally understand.

@music1990‌

Just a worst-case scenario.

The good thing is that if I get C’s, it’ll be in two classes that I don’t need for my major. One is an elective and the other is one I need for IGETC completion. I guess I’m worrying too much.

@Cayton I thought you abandoned us :-h

:-?

@jonjon03 I’m starting to think that it might be super challenging for me to finish all my pre-reqs by the end of my first semester…
my plan was to take take 1 CS and 1 Math over the summer and then 1.5 CS and 1 Math over the fall but it seems like Berkeley only recommends taking one over the summer as 2 might be overburdening…although I think it is common to take 2 anyways

It could be hard to maintain above a 3.00 at Berkeley especially with 2 very involved classes compressed into a summer session.

just thinking aloud haha

@toepump I think it might be possible to fulfil those requirements at a CC. I was looking into Diablo and Laney colleges to finish up the comp sci requirements, however I believe to register for that school for summer classes is passed already (not sure). I am not even sure if Berkeley would accept those credits. All in all I would like to think those responsible for admissions would have have a reasonable expectations of students being able to declare their major before they would accept you.

edit Also, people like to scare you out of taking a math course during the summer, but I’ve always find math classes during the summer more easier (at least for CC). I like the fast pace and that with going to classes more frequently without break helped me keep focused. Also, it seems that professors are a little bit more lenient during the summer which means easier exams.
