The Official UCB Fall of 2014 Decisions Thread

I found the exact opposite thing. It seems UCLA is really REALLY random this year. The STRONGEST PS I have read was rejected from UCLA while another person with a weaker essay (although still good) and a lower GPA ( 3.3) was accepted. On the flip-side I’ve read essays by people with 3.7s and 3.9s that were decent-to-alight and they got in. On a similar note I have read some people being offered alternate majors while others were not. So from my POV they really lack constancy, seems to be really dependent on the admissions officer(s) bias/slant when reading essay / going through the application.

I’m hoping Berkeley’s holistic review is a lot more constant.

@bluebottle
Yeah I think you’ve summed up my current life up in a nutshell. I have these random bursts of enthusiasm, where I feel like I’ve got a good chance of getting in, and then the metacognition kicks in; suddenly I feel awful for lacking modesty, so I shun myself and think about how I can be just as easily rejected. Afterward, I try to emanate kindness to generate good karma that may or may not exist. This entire process can happen about 100-200 times a day in a matter of moments. I could be doing an exam, listening to a lecture, or pouring a glass of almond milk… anything really. I’m a goober, I know.

If any of us make it out of this madness alive, none of us will be returning home with mental stability. This wait is just an onset of various, induced mental disorders waiting to happen.

@bomerr‌

Such, I suppose, is the flaw with holistic admissions. I don’t expect Berkeley’s to be much different.

@music1990‌

No. Can you provide a link, please?

@Anxiety94‌

HAHA literally the same. I have good gpa around 3.91, got all the pre-req and IGETC done but I have 8 Ws, 3 failing grades (I made up all of them with As), essay is not that strong, lacking EC… first generation college student, low income… I really can’t predict anything. Cal’s holistic review scares me to be honest but I think it’s a fair thing to do.

They talk about it at the end of the thread a lot.

@music1990‌

Damn, Stanford wasn’t playing around.

That could be UCLA and Berkeley in the future. These tricks may not work forever.

@Cayton‌

I knoww, Getting rescinded from Stanford because you checked early would be the worst feeling in the world. Like, if you were one of like 25 people they actually accepted for transfer, and then it all goes away.

That was one reason I stayed away from the tricks, even though you probably wouldn’t get in trouble for the tricks people were doing with the UCs. I guess I just wanted to wait anyways.

@music1990‌

I was tempted to use the tricks, but there was a nagging feeling in the back of my head telling me not to do it and just wait.

I waited and it was totally worth it.

I am wondering that is a first generation college student good or bad for the admission?

@kio3063‌

If anything, it’s a good thing. They recognize that someone whose parents didn’t go to college faces a tougher challenge in succeeding in school.

We’re so close guys.

@music1990 Thanks. I hope it is a good thing.

Yeaaasss we are so close!! 2 days left!

Wow this thread got lively over night…don’t you guys have morning classes? lol

@Anxiety94‌

Same here! I really have that desire to live up north, preferably the Bay Area. We’ve been in Orange County too long…haha.

Crazy nervous… 2 days!!

Hey all, I am applying to Berkley from OOS. I currently attend a local Texas Community College and I have a 3.8 at the time of doing the transfer update. I am majoring in Chemical Engineering. I have been rejected to UCLA and UCSB already. I have 70 hours of credit, all pre-reqs done and have made all A’s in my Calc, Phys, Bio, and Chem classes. Have a good amount of work experience, a pharmacy internship, and do many extracurriculars (don’t feel like listing).

Anyways, I don’t have much hope for getting in to this one either since I got rejected at the other two, but it is okay! I have already accepted my admission for Chemical Engineering at UT Austin for the fall :slight_smile: I think UT was really the best fit for me the whole time and would be the easiest transition for me since I live in Austin already. I honestly applied to these schools because at the time I thought it would be cool to move away and start over new, plus Cali is really nice so I figured maybe that could be it. Turns out in the end, I think I ended up where I was meant to be all along :slight_smile: I am still curious though on my decision, even though I already probably know what it is :)) I hope everyone gets an acceptance letter two days from now!

@MsChemE‌ dang i feel bad for you cause your stats are absolutely amazing but your chances were cut down so much cause you were an OOS applicant and cause chem E is hard enough to get into as it is :frowning: but its awesome that you got in to UT Austin and im glad you found were you belong and hopefully we all get in :slight_smile: 2 more days!

2 more days! we are almost there :)

Has anyone heard of anyone getting accepted into L&S with prereqs not completed yet? How often does this happen?
I’m currently in 4 prereqs and I would still need 2 after this spring semester

Check assist.org. If the prerequisites for you’re major are required than you’ll probably be auto-rejected. However, if it’s a major like Computer Science, where three of the prerequisites–CS 61ABC-- aren’t required, than you’re probably ok. It all really depends on the major.
