<p>Does Berkeley look at GPA for major prereq and non-prereq separately? I applied as a psych major, and I have all As except for a calc class, which is not part of the major prereq. I already finished all of the prereqs, and people who read my PS said it was very good. I’m just really nervous because psych is so impacted.</p>
<p>I don’t know if they look at your GPA in terms of major/non-major prerequisites, but if you have all A’s except for one B (or C), then I doubt that one grade would really make a difference. At that point, what kicks you over the fence is your PS, EC’s, and awards. (None of this is “official” btw; just my own analysis of people who have gotten in.)</p>

Well I don’t have very many EC because of family problems. My mom suffers from a brain tumor, and because she doesn’t speak English, I go with her to all of the appointments and other various places. My counselor said to write that as family responsibilities for EC, I just don’t know how the admissions people will look at it.</p>
<p>Are you kidding–if you can keep your GPA up in spite of your mom’s tumor, then that says a lot about you’re ability to succeed at Berkeley. I’m sure the admissions committee will see that, but there’s only two more days to find out. Oh the anxiety is killing me!</p>

<p>@Yukaris dang my condolences about your situation, i had a similar experience cause my mom has breast cancer and she cannot drive so i mainly take her around to her various appointments and run errands for her. if you conveyed your situation well in your PS and have a good GPA, id say you would have a really good shot at Berkeley :)</p>

Thank you. I did mention it in my PS, and how I became more independent and mature due to the situation. I have a 3.77 at the time of the application, hopefully it’s good enough for the psych major.</p>

<p>Berkeley does not consider major prep GPA as a factor of admission. UCLA does. </p>

<p>Guys can anyone give me a rundown on the city of Berkeley/Albany? I have an 18 month old, and that makes Davis an extremely attractive option because it seems very peaceful and family oriented. Is Berkeley a place to raise a child? I just keep hearing its fun and unique, but does that translate to not fun for me attending school and raising a family? Help.</p>
