@noisnotananswer True about the top 8 schools for undergrad. Its more about location and if someone wants to go into engineering or not(mit/caltech vs the rest) if berkeley is like other schools at all, getting a 3.5+ and networking with professors usually makes it much more likely to get into that field for grad school(at that school). And as Berkley is top 7 in pretty much every possible graduate field, that’s a HUGE perk.

@bigcityofdreams Eh, merced. Now that’s pushing it a bit.

@Bigcityofdreams

Not really, no. I just find his immaturity amusing.

I mean, he just called me a dick tart and a “nerd boy”. What is a dick tart? What’s a nerd boy? Where’s the originality in those kinds of insults? lol

@kb242014

It doesn’t really matter if you doubt that I’ll get in or not, since, in all likelihood, I won’t plan to go. I’ve already SIR’d to UCLA.

Now, if you can prove me wrong and get into Berkeley, great! All the more power to you. But please, I implore you, stop acting like you’re 13 years old with these insults and with this juvenile anger that you irrationally express over trivial matters.

Although, I won’t lie, I’m going to find it somewhat funny if you don’t get in. Is that mean? Yeah, kind of, I suppose. But when a person like you comes into this thread and throws a temper tantrum over dumb ■■■■, it’s hard for me and people like me to sympathize with you.

But, at the end of the day, I do sincerely wish you the best of luck in getting in at Berkeley.

@music1990

lol, you know it! UCLA is an excellent school and I’d like to think it’s indisputably so, even if Berkeley is better(and it is).

lol, UCLA. More like “UCLGAAAAY”, am I right??? :D

@Cayton
Oh I know man. For my major, UCLA is much, much better. So much better that I didn’t even bother applying because I wouldn’t have gotten in.

That guy is just trying to cause problems probably because he’s nervous.

@music1990

Is it really? I mean, Berkeley is great at everything, lol.

One would think this would include music, too.

@transferUCderp,

I didn’t wait on Berkeley and I couldn’t be happier. Listen, at the UG level, you can’t to go wrong with either. I know this might be hard to believe, but, not everyone is going to base their decision on rankings from USN and whatnot. Overall, Berkeley has higher ranked graduate fields. And yes, Berkeley is more prestigious. Clearly, the gap is more apparent in international rankings which is irrelevant to my interests. I also don’t care about who has the higher SAT scores. :))

Berkeley in a better location? How so? I don’t think it’s even close. LA > Berkeley. There are plenty of reasons to choose UCLA over Berkeley. Closer to family? Could argue that’s a negative. Would not be as competitive? Lol, we’re transfer students. I don’t think any of us can definitively say we know where we’d be more “competitive.” Personally, I do feel that UCLA will put me in a better position to succeed. Has nothing to do with rigor or perceived prestige.

So, your “reasoning” for picking Stanford over UCB is based on what? Based on what you wrote above, you’d think UCB would fit your criteria better. It’s cheaper. Both are in close proximity so closer to family is irrelevant. Rankings? Those GS rankings you speak of put UCB up there with Stanford as well. And who would pick Berkeley over Stanford based on thinking they wouldn’t be as competitive at Stanford? That 50k tuition buys that grade inflation.

If we’re basing this solely on UG, I can’t help but laugh at your comparison. UCB is barely ranked above UCLA in the most “popular” US rankings. Stanford is ranked way above Berkeley. It isn’t even close.

@Cayton
I’m sure it has a good department, but it’s still about academics, not musical performance. You don’t need to audition to get in, and it’s not very selective.

At UCLA, you have to audition, just like at the top musical schools like Julliard, and it’s very selective. I wish it was based on grades, but it’s not.

I can’t decide when to go to sleep.

@music1990

I see. Well, in any case, a degree in music from Berkeley is still pretty impressive! And about 15 hours to go until you learn your fate! :)

@Zalrons

Couldn’t have said it better myself.

It’s really weird/embarrassing to see someone fighting to get into a top university write an argumentative post on academic prestige with phrases like ‘uclgay.”

Anyway, good luck everyone! I applied for CogSci. Not sure if I have a chance or not, we’ll see tomorrow. :)

@credulitykills

You should SIR to UCLA to teach that guy a lesson!

@cayton, thanks man!

@credulitykills, what’s interesting is that they applied to UCSD but not UCLA. I honestly think that person was rejected by LA and is hoping Berkeley is more holistic. Anyways, I hope you get in tomorrow! Good luck!

if only the admissions committee would read these forums, haha they would have so much fun! haha guys why are you fighting for? At the end of the day both schools are amazing! It honestly comes down to location, major, and where do you think you would be happier I already got into UCLA and I’m seriously considering going there, as a matter of fact, that’s the school I would go to if Berkeley rejects me… It would make my decision so much easier… But if they accept me I would just have a really hard time making my decision because both are simply amazing!!

@ucastell

I think I’m already developing that bruin pride. I just hate to see someone insulting my school, know what I mean?

I’m surprised I haven’t gotten a UCLA sweater yet.

@Cayton, yeah I understand maybe he/she is under a lot of stress and needed to take it out on someone else… that happens. I already have my UCB sweater haha I bought it during cal day, I should’ve waited haha. If I don’t get in I’m just going to replace it for a UCLA one

I’m going to go get some snacks and sleeping pills from the store u guys need anything?

I think I’m going to be up very late.

Wake me up when decisions are released :-P

@music1990
You know what really helped calm my nerves? I just had a deep 30 minute conversation with myself in the mirror, and I talked about all the different angles about this situation we’re in. I feel much more centered now; confident that I can get in, yet also poised enough to accept rejection. For any of you out there who are just dying inside from the wait and have nothing to do, go on and try it. Talk out loud to yourself and make a lot of eye contact, there is a lot of power in that.

That kb guy also hates on UCSB for some trivial BS. I think he’s just a bitter person in general.

I am drinking cheap wine till I fall asleep… hopefully when I wake up it would be 4;30 ish
