The Official UCB Fall of 2014 Decisions Thread

@anxiety94 Wow, we really are the same!! Hope to see you in one of my media studies classes at Cal one day! : )

@anxiety94 @‌patriciav Sorry to hear about UCLA, but if it makes you feel any better, Comm. is ridiculously impacted there. They didn’t even review applications with GPA’s below 3.7, so think about how crazy that applicant pool must have been!

@smashley93
Yep! I actually remember reading that on their website, which is insane! They explicitly said that they would not review applications under a 3.7gpa… Funny how they are still ranked below Berkeley though.

Here is a countdown clock for everyone to stare at and feel more nervous! Leave it up on your screen and watch time move slower and slower :(( Good luck everyone!

Hi,
I wish everyone the best of luck.
I’m so nervous! I applied to media studies. GPA 3.92, major reg: 4.0.
Worked full-time while going to school full-time at an advertising company.
Speaks 5 languages, volunteered, wrote for the schools newspaper, been part of two honor societies etc.

I got in to UCLA comm studies without having all the major requirements but I’m so nervous that I won’t get in to Berkeley. Does anyone know what the average GPA is for media studies? (capped major)

@chaoscuber Hey man, I’ve been trying to stay off CC for a couple days to focus on my classes but the day has come and I can’t resist being on here. I’m really nervous/excited. How are you holding up? Less than half a day left!

@smashley Yeah, I was definitely aware of how competitive it was… I think I just applied because I wanted to see if I could get in or not. I didn’t really mind the rejection itself because I didn’t want to go there anyways, but I guess I just felt worried that it would reflect the UCB decision since the admission process can sometimes be so erratic and random.

@patriciav I hope we both get in, i’m so nervous I know several people who are applying with 4.0s which is worrisome!

@patriciav There’s no way to predict anyone’s fate. IMO, Cal is much more subjective and unpredictable than LA, which is terrifying. However, I assume you applied to Rhetoric at UCB? As they don’t have comm?

@selmaware EXCELLENT stats by the way and congrats on UCLA comm! best of luck and good vibes for all us media studies majors here.

@smashley93 I applied to media studies, seems like more of my focus since I’m interested in communication from a media perspective rather than the analytical and logical side of it. I did enjoy taking debate for my comm AA so I might declare a minor for rhetoric if I get into Cal.

@patriciav Thanks, I hope all of us get in, let’s create a facebook group if we do? Are you guys from SF? I live in l.a right now.
Also what school is better for our major? UCLA is more competitive but Berkeley is Berkeley…

@patriciav I see. Good luck! Your GPA is competitive, so as long as you had decent personal statements and EC’s, I’d say you have a solid shot :)

@patriciav oh that is so funny! I didn’t imagine that anyone would get the reference, since they are still pretty unknown, but I’m glad for the uncanny coincidence =P

Any rhetoric majors here?

Is there a Facebook group specifically for transfer 2016?

For the people who do get in today, here’s the link to the main group at berkeley: https://www.FB.com/groups/groupsatberkeley/

@selmaware I’m from San Jose. I’ve heard from Berkeley grads that the school is definitely more analytical and research based so I’m guessing that’s what media studies would be like. If you’re interested heavily in the PRACTICE of comm (like public speaking, interpersonal communication, etc.), I think UCLA would be way better. Plus, it’s LA so I’m sure you’d easily land an internship for a major marketing or PR firm down there. Not really aiming for a major marketing/advertising desk job right now since I want to work for non-profit media outlets so I feel like Berkeley would be more my vibe.

@toucheamore I’m possibly going for a rhetoric minor… Funny, as I’m scrolling through this forum, I was also waiting for touche amore tickets to go on sale…

If you guys are nervous and want time to pass by a little faster, youtube EdBassmaster, he is hilarious.

@patriciav thank you! Public speaking is not really my thing (it was the major req i was missing haha) so I think berkeley might be a better fit. I looked at the classes and they look much more interesting too.
Do you know if theyre doing this new wait list thing for transfer students?
Also if we are not accepted into the major and only to L&S what does that mean? That even if we get into Berkeley we might not get into our major? what happens then?

Also can everyone do a minor? sorry for all the questions~

Just saw this on facebook! Is it gonna be around 5 pm for sure?

UC Berkeley transfer admissions decisions are pending. We expect them to be posted on http://myberkeleyapp.berkeley.edu this afternoon (PST). ‪#‎UCBerkeley2016‬

EdBassmaster mumbles in the hood–what did I just watch…

@selmawe I’m aware that the media studies major is only about 30 or so units so it would be easy to fill in more classes to declare a minor. Unless they changed it.
