The Official Yale Class of 2012 (Hopeful) Thread

husker; don't worry. as long as you've gotten your stuff in, they understand that other documents trickle in. It's not like there's some troll in the mail room that sweeps everything marked Nov 2nd and later into the incinerator. If at some point when they pull your file and there's still a rec or two missing, they'll contact your school on your behalf.

huskerboy, my DD got the identical email on Monday. I'm pretty darn sure this means everything is in. You can relax and try and think about something else for 6 weeks. Ha. Good luck to you!

I just applied today!!! Good luck to every1

I just submitted my application 30 minutes ago! Exciting!

My teeth will chatter more than usual this winter despite the, psh, so-called "global warming" phenomenon...due to anxiety gradually building up into a geyser of uncertainty and anticipation.

Come December 15, BOOM.

Just submitted, Good luck everyone! Who else is nervous already? ;-)

Btw did anyone else's teacher let them see the rec?

WAH! I expected to feel relief after submitting my app, but now I'm just really nervous about everything! And yes, one of my teachers gave me a copy of her letter although not the form. The other one didn't. I think it depends on teachers and how they feel about whether kids should see the letters.

What does a good rec even look like? Like how many Best of Careers vs. Top 5% vs. Top 10% in the little boxes?

my teacher let me see my rec. it was great.....

I just signed up for an account but I've read this site a lot. I applied for Yale SCEA! I sent in my applications two weeks ago.

I was pleased with my primary rec, but the second one probably sucked. Every extracurricular activity i did (except sports) involved this teacher. I had his class for two years and was one of the top 1-2 students both years. He's my favorite teacher I was really expected a great, detailed rec. I didn't read the rec but i did get to look at it. He took up about half the space allowed on the common app form. Maybe 2 paragraphs. I told him a month in advance and kept reminding him, but i think he waited until the day of or the night before to write it. sigh

I love YALE!! I had my interview for EA yesterday and it was great! She made Yale sound like the best place in the world for me to be for the next few years.

vaguy89, don't worry about the length. The most powerful recs are succinct and get to the point. It's the content of those few paras that matters.

i got to see my recs too! my eng teacher wrote a really great one! BUT she did mention how i'm rarely the first to start a class discussion although i do further the discussions in class.. SO im worried that yale would use that against me sigh

i wish i got to see my recs! im confident with one and im sure the other is aighttt. but yea...i think the more i go on CC the slower these next few weeks will pass! aa the anxiety!

hi, so..um..I never knew this existed until...well..today.
And I was one of those who sent my application in the last hour possible.
Seeing all these people here who've sent in as soon as the supplement went live, I'm freaking out not a little bit. I fear but love you all! I'm suddenly afraid I'm not quite 'type a' enough for yale, but the diversity and actual taste of interests on this blog is enough to wrench my heart waiting for mid-December.
If anyone cares by now, I live in Shanghai, moved here at 12 from sunny California, attend a very strange 6-year-old private school, adore saxophone, want to major in political science/international relations or physics, and give a sugar-and-bubbles first impression until someone sees camus, dostoeyevsky, or palahnuik in my arms. my secret vain obsession is having an ipod list more eclectic than the girl sitting next to me.

anyone else applying from the east asia region???

Definitely :)

rowing in the same boat

I applied SCEA on oct 31, but i didnt receive an email like huskerboy did. I got a receipt for my common app and the yale supplement submissions by email but I have not heard from Yale whether my file is complete or not. Should I be worried?? Also, my interviewer has not yet contacted me....Should I call Yale admissions and ask them what is going on? Or wait somemore?

My transcript was sent oct 24. As well as one rec. The other rec was postmarked oct 31 or nov 1. That teacher procrastinated a little bit but I am sure he didnt miss the deadline. I reminded him so many times.

As the admissions office starts on the backlog, they'll run across incomplete files at which they'll just contact the schools, etc. It's not uncommon. Also, alumni interviews are done on a volunteer basis. Depending on where you live, there may or may not be many alumni. Even so, don't sweat it.

Good luck to all of you

Hi! I would love to talk to anyone here about Yale, myself, you, etc. Just message me or something because I can't seem to think of anything nifty to say right now. :-)

Go us!
