The Ohio State Univeristy VS. Purdue Univeristy

Hi, I would like some feedback on these two colleges.
First year I think I will be declared undecided for both schools.
(Trying to decide between CS, pre-dentistry and a minor in business)
I know it all depends on what major your going for and etc but still I would like any information you guys can give me!
Based on location and campus atmosphere I absolutely love both schools.
However what trips me is the cost to attend Purdue (OOS $44,000).
Its not a huge issue but enough to consider whether Purdue's education is worth the money.
My parents are willing to get a loan if going to Purdue is going to give me a better education and help towards my future.
On the other hand, for OSU, I have lived in Ohio my whole life and would only have to pay $10,000.
Ohio State is also ranked higher (52) than Purdue (68) but I feel like Purdue is more prestigious by what I've heard.
Anything you have to say will help me very much on deciding where to go!
Thanks

Purdue is only considered more prestigious in engineering, and CS and predental are both in other schools. Unless you really prefer Purdues campus (rural) to OSUs (urban), pick OSU and take the instate tuition with higher rank for your programs.

No brainer. There is no area where Purdue is worth $34k/year more.

I am a mom, and just reading through your post, I agree that I would advise you to pick Ohio. Since you “absolutely loved them both” AND you are undecided, I would save the $$ and go instate for undergrad. Then if you choose to go into dentistry, you would have that $$ available to take out loans then, if needed. The schools are not significantly different, both have a great variety of programs, big campuses, Div 1 teams. You will meet friends and love it at either one. I have several friends who work in fields where they are the ones hiring, they honestly do not care about where the degree came from, only what the student choose to do while at college. Get involved in activities and clubs related to your major- do internships, get the best grades you can. I live in NY and we have heard of both of these schools, so “prestige” is not a good reason to pick between them.

FYI- it can be nicer being close to home, too. My older child had a major health issue when she went to college 1200 miles away- and it was really hard for all of us to deal with. She made it through and is OK, but closer might have been better.

Go to Ohio. Enjoy it and best of luck!

No, Purdue is not worth the extra money. The only way it could be would be if it had a major which was not available at OSU. True, Purdue is probably better for engineering and tech majors. Just not worth your parents taking out loans.

On the flip side, it is not worth the money for an Indiana resident to attend OSU. Only in exceptional circumstances is it worth paying out of state tuition to attend a university in a different state. Never say never, but this is rarely justifiable.
