Okay. Those are 2015 numbers. Mine were 2014. OSU came off the championship in Jan 2015 so they got more revenue. But I can bet it went down for this year. Since Alabama won the national championship this January, I would expect it to go higher in next year’s report.
@soyunchico, most of your pros and cons seem pointing most strongly to OSU, but you still can’t decide…SO I think there’s something missing on you list of pros and cons. Most of the things you like about Bama have an equalizer on the OSU side, such as nice weather in the south, but on the other hand you like snow. Bama cheaper, but nice dorms would eat up some of that $ advantage. Your mom likes Bama but I’m sure she would like you three hours away, too! Maybe the missing factor is more of a “gut” or intuitive thing. (i.e., just seems more exciting to go far away, etc.) If you can figure out that missing thing holding you up, it might be clearer which to base your decision on…
BTW, if you just want to go further away, there will be many opportunities post undergrad for adventures
@inthegarden my mom likes them both a lot but loves Bama so idk
^Does she say what she particularly likes?..So you can decide if that’s important to YOU? Also, it’s a good idea for you to figure out where you stand with regard to the greek thing…that could make a difference in your decision. Also, would your mom support you joining a frat if you felt that’s an important part of the UA experience ?
@inthegarden I wouldn’t go Greek at osu and I’m okay with the idea at Alabama but I don’t really want to because I would be worried about school. And it costs a lot. The Greek thing is something I don’t like at UA but I could probably still have fun I hope.
Also, and this sounds weird, but I feel like there are a lot of signs I should go to osu: taking the act twice to get one more point for the full scholarship at Bama and not getting it, flipping a coin three times and it landed for osu three times. However, I’m in group chat with 30 people going to Bama next year and they are awesome I could definitely see us all being friends.
Could you find a group chat for OSU? Don’t know that that’s a reason (in and of itself) to choose a University but haing that feeling of friendship with people going to both schools could reassure your decision either way…
Are your friends going to Bama mostly FROM Alabama or OOS?
@inthegarden most are oos
If the Greek thing is something you don’t like at Alabama I would be Leary of choosing it. I have friends who have gone to heavy Greek schools who had difficulty not joining. The Greeks ran everything. They couldn’t even find an intramural team to join because the teams were all formed by the Greek system. If you want to rush it would be a great choice.
For what it is worth, I don’t think my D really had that “this is where I need to go” feeling at any of the campuses she visited. She’s a freshman and LOVES Ohio State. Did you apply for the Scholars program? She found that Scholars really helped connect her with a group of friends right away. If you’re not doing Scholars, finding a roommate through Facebook ahead of time would allow you to connect with at least one other student before you arrive on campus.
One thought - you’ll need a high GPA to get into med school. You might want to look into what the grading curves look like at both universities in the weed-out pre-med classes. I know the first general chemistry class at OSU has a tough curve (50% get a C or lower). Not sure about any of the other pre-med classes.
@momfactfinder I did apply for scholars and my essay was good but I made a stupid mistake that definitely jeopardized my chances. If I don’t get into scholars I would definitely apply for an LLC. As far as classes go, they may be slightly easier at UA but both will be very challenging and I’m willing to work hard. Im happy your daughter loves it so much! My bug concern is meeting people and having friends more than acquaintances because I don’t think I’ll get into scholars. Thanks
@soyunchico when did you submit your app and when did you hear back? Just curious how long I should expect to wait…
@d012939 for which school?
@soyunchico OSU. Sorry, should have specified. I already got into Bama!
@d012939 I applied mid September and found out Friday. Good luck
@soyunchico thanks! I definitely have awhile to wait then… I barely met the Nov 1 deadline …
@d012939 I’m sure you’ll be fine! Are you between Bama and osu?
@soyunchico I’m sorry I never responded… maybe it was because I didn’t know then but now I am between the two!
I currently am a student at the University of Alabama and am looking to transfer to Ohio State. Alabama is a good school but the social aspect isn’t what I expected and the academics aren’t very challenging. It is super greek and if you don’t plan on joining greek life then I wouldn’t go there. If you are a boy there is no chance of having a great social life if you don’t join a fraternity which is ridiculous but true. Even if you are in a fraternity it doesn’t guarantee that you will like it. I am apart of greek life and I still don’t enjoy it. Also, the traditions here are difficult to adapt to if you’re not from the south. Everyone is super into their social status and not very down to earth. Although school isn’t all about the people and the social scene, it is important for your happiness. If you are not surrounded by nice people you won’t be happy and that’s what I started to realize at this school. I don’t mean to bad mouth Alabama, but this is something I would have wanted to know before making the decision to go here.
@lamatsen thank you. I actually chose osu assuming get the out of state scholarship. Could you elaborate more on the academics tho bc if I don’t the scholarship ill most likely go to Bama.
