I'm talking in terms of good educations.

It is considered prestigious on a national level…

It depends exactly how narrowly you define “good public college”. Michigan is a top ranked public and attracts the best students in the state but Michigan State is also a good school. You can get a fine education at MSU or the directional universities- Eastern, Western, Central…

Now if you are sure you can only get a proper education at a tier 1 school then, yes, UM is the only the good public. If you can look outside those tiers, you’ll find any of the previously mentioned universities are fine.

I hope you’re joking…
There’s OCC, Wayne State, Walsh, OU, and many more… These are all fine, fine institutions! You should be thankful to live in such a great state; I wish I could live there.

^I live in MI and have never heard of OCC or Walsh…are these community colleges?

To answer the OP, I think Michigan Ann Arbor is the only “great” public we have. MSU is a few levels below UM so I’d say it’s still “good”. Western, GVSU, and Michigan Tech are also okay, imo

lol I mean like in terms of well-regarded degrees. yeah it seems like UofM is our best for sure. OCC is Oakland Community College (Oakland county), and I’ve seen commercials for Walsh.

Well what do you mean by “well-regarded” degrees?

I mean like considered elite

^Well I think you and every other person on CC already know the answer to that question

Hahaha, I wasn’t sure! I’ve heard some things about Michigan Tech, but idk if a degree from there is viewed in the same light as one from UofM engineering, especially when applying for jobs out-of-state.

liv4physicz: You are everywhere on CC! Every forum I go to I find a post from you!

Uhh that’s all. :)

liv4physicz: I thought you were some big volunteer big wig in Detroit. Where’s all your MI knowledge?

Seriously, are you trying to be coy? Of course a degree from UMich would be considered “the best” and probably the only “elite” public in MI but it doesn’t mean Michgan State or Tech, Central, Eastern, Western, Wayne State, etc. aren’t “well-regarded” or that an employer will just toss your application out the window because you’re not a UM grad. Will a degree from UM probably get a heartier response OOS? Perhaps. But in the end, you know what they’ll see on your application? That you received a degree in engineering with whatever point whatever whatever GPA.

T26: Haha, I have MI knowledge and Detroit knowledge (probably much more than your average Michigander), but I’m just clarifying that unlike some states we only have one top 25ish school…

justsmile: yeah I only go on the app, which shows you the most recent postings. so I guess I post on a diverse mixture of the topics!

I wish I could live in Michigan also! I hate Ohio. I want to go to Grand Valley.

Haha why do you hate Ohio? We in MI hate it but I always thought that was just us

No, Michigan is not the only good public college in Michigan. Not even close as far as I’m concerned. Is it the only top 25? Yeah… Hell, a guy I know just graduated from U of M Dearborn in eecs and is already making six figures while working on something that will stop cars from hitting each other, so going to Ann Arbor doesn’t even seem COMPLETELY necessary (we are local to Dearborn though). Another friend knows a programmer from Dearborn that’s making 125k… It’s not hard to find a good education.

Sent from my DROIDX using CC App

I think UofM just all-around rocks. I’m sorta local to Dearborn too (Bham) haha

Michigan is clearly the best state of all :p

Crest1 unlike U of M and MSU, you won’t have to pay much to go to GV OOS. Still, I think there are other good schools in Michigan like MSU and GVSU, but the only world renowed college would be U of M. Also, Michigan does have a few good private schools such as Hillsdale, Hope, and Kalamazoo College.
