[ *) Location/Person:
[ *] State or Country: Florida
[ *] School Type: Large Public (Not highly rated)
[ *] Ethnicity: Indian
[ *] Gender: Male

[ *] major strength/weakness: My weaknesses were definitely my test scores. I never thought I would get into a competitive school with my test scores but I guess my extracurriculars and coursework took over for me. I would like all of you to know that test scores are not as important as we all think they are. Another weakness is that both of my parents are doctors and I am usually not eligible for financial aid or need-based scholarships. Also, I am 100% Indian (even though I am third-generation) and that does not help either.

[ *] why you think you were accepted/rejected/deferred: I believe that I got accepted because I abandoned an IB program after my sophomore year to pursue more rigorous endeavors through a local college as well as some non-local colleges. I am still sorta shocked that I am accepted because my test scores are not too great for out of state. Also, I took the SAT 7 times and accidentally sent all of them to UNC. The point of matter is, I am starting to learn an important lesson that coursework, grades, and curriculum take precedence over test scores. Also, I had strong essays and strong recommendation letters. However, my leadership in clubs was not the strongest attribute. Overall, I see myself as a generally well-rounded student.

[ *] Other Factors: I am a major non-conformist and I displayed that well to the college. By non-conformist, I mean that I like to take challenges outside the realm of what is already established and pave new paths for myself. I’ve interviewed with some other colleges and they seem to be looking for non-conformists to come to their university. In order to get into a school like UNC Chapel Hill (OOS), it really requires a person to be a non-conformist by distinguishing themselves from the other 10,000+ applicants.

[ *] going to attend? I am not sure whether or not I am going to attend yet. I applied to 14 other schools that I am still waiting to hear answers from. Since I have a strong passion for medicine so I applied to several combined medical programs as well. However, my SAT score is always my big limiting factor. I am also hoping to give Harvard a chance if for some reason I get struck with some major luck. Ironically, I was on my way to visit UNC when I found out that I was accepted. Therefore, I had not visited the school prior to being accepted. Overall, I loved the school and I would love to attend if I were not accepted to Harvard or a combined medical program.

Congratulations to those accepted! Also, good luck to those in the process or those already rejected.
