Spray tans don’t hide wrinkle and crepey skin. If anything, they make it stand out more.
Did you do that because you felt old and unfashionable in them?
Who will be seeing your upper thighs??
No one in my area under the age of 80 wears hose. I think it’s instantly aging. Much more so than crepe skin.
I’d honestly wear a pretty pant suit before I wore hose.
Upper thigh means the top. Which extends down to the knee cap.
I wear pantyhose to formal events. I find them comfortable, they make my legs and tummy look much better and minimize blisters as well if wearing new shoes. My DD is getting married on the 30th and I’m wearing it to her wedding.
I wear nude pantyhose to weddings. I have a scar on my leg that the pantyhose makes disappear.
Even without the scar I would still wear them. It doesn’t make me feel old. And I think it looks much better than some of the skin I see on many of the bare legged women.
i wear black compression knee-highs (or leg sleeves with sandals as soon as it’s warm enough for my first pedicure). I also wear compression leggings (cheap from Old Navy) under shorter dresses.
whoops didn’t mean this as a response to @vpa2019
I have a scar on my leg also. Skin cancer removal.
Although it looks well enough and I’m not that worried, I still think it would be nice to be covered on a dressy occasion. I also have super pale legs although I have been blessed not to have varicose veins.
I think it’s great that pantyhose isn’t required anymore.
But like lots of fashion, it would be nice if anything you want to wear would be fine. So wear the tights. Wear nude hose.
No pantyhose or tights. Great for the young. In warm climates. Not great when it’s freezing out. Or when the legs aren’t what they once were.
Agree! It’s great for the young, but not many legs on us. If I can find a pretty pair of pumps I like, and sheer enough hose, I think I’ll do it. It should be cold.
I had to look hard, but Walmart does still sell pantyhose. I bought some for younger S’ graduation in May. My dress was shorter and I just felt more comfortable in them. And it wound up being cool, especially in the evening so I was glad to have them. I wore nude and didn’t think my legs looked much different. Just smoother.
I don’t own a pair and hope I never do again. I do wear tights but I guess that is not appropriate with a cocktail dress!
But though I dislike pantyhose - and would do whatever to NOT have to wear them, you do you! If it makes you feel covered, comfortable, wear them.
As women over 50 we need to STOP with judging others. Do what’s right for you.
And a final note. I know what you mean about the “creppy “ legs - but these legs are superstars. They get me lots of exercise, walk miles daily…. I will not hide them! No mini dresses but I will NOT give up above the knee, shorts, skorts etc!
I’m in AZ and can report that they sell a limited selection of pantyhose at Nordstrom buried among all the fancy tights and shapewear. My MOB dress is just below the knee and I want to wear pantyhose to hide my many imperfections on my legs. But as mentioned on another thread I’m thinking of wearing pumps for photos and then switching to some more comfortable but still dressy sandals. So I’m wondering if the pantyhose will look weird with sandals (the hose are sheer toe, to reinforced toe).
In the past I have worn these by Donna Karan, but they are no longer available. Not familiar with this brand.
I think it’s crazy that tights are acceptable in fashion, but pantyhose sometimes frowned upon. Don’t get me wrong - I’m glad that pantyhose are no longer required to be “proper”, which gosh was especially horrid in the summer heat. Just waiting for the fashion pendulum to swing toward more inclusiveness on all choices. In the meantime, I’ll wear pantyhose (sometimes sheer black) once in a while when it seems the best choice to me.
It took me a long time to give up pantyhose. I like them. I haven’t worn them in a long time, though. But I wear tights all the time with boots and booties in cooler weather (which is most of the year around here). I wouldn’t hesitate to wear them in late September.
I wore pantyhose to my daughter’s wedding last month, and I wear pantyhose when I need to wear a suit (presenting at a municipal meeting). I still see women wear pantyhose at weddings, and at some types of meetings.
They don’t have as many pantyhose in the stores these days, and for the past two decades I have had trouble finding Size A (or small size) pantyhose in stores - why do stores only carry the larger sizes?
I swear I’ve seen toeless panty hose…for those of you who want to wear open toe shoes. @BunsenBurner am I making that up??
Nope! There are toeless options. Like these:
